Got a Telkom flyer in the mail

Anybody else get it? Giving a 50% discount on installation etc.

I currently don't have a phone line and am looking at getting ADSL, apparently you need a normal telephone line as well thus my interest in the flyer, because it has a special which for R569.28 it gives you:

Free HomeDSL installation
Free home line installation
Free HomeDSL modem (in the fineprint it says this is subject to availability, does that mean they can sucker me into a contract without giving me a modem? or would I just have to wait?)

and other less important 'freebies'

Is this a worthwhile package or should I look at doing everything seperately? They have a cheaper option for the 384 packge thats R451.28

Any feedback would be appreciated.
 
Please, oh please, just don’t sign any kind of 24 month contract with Telkom just for the free stuff. In the long run you are paying for each and everyone of that free crap.
Be assured - Telkom doesn’t give anything for FREE. There’s a reason they give you this "FREE" stuff – it’s easy: they want you to sign a contract so they can suck you dry for the next couple of years, and there’s no way you can leave them for another service or maybe even the SNO.
Pay for the installation. You can get an ADSL modem for less than R500 or a router for less than R700.

when i applied the last 3 times, they have given me a flyer like that, you dont have to sign the contract, the still give you the reduced instalation rates (50% off on telephone and adsl instalation). you also get a few other free goodies, like free voicemail thing you never have to pay for, i didnt want it so we cancled that, you also get like 3/4 months free caller id enabled on the line, but watch out, you have to cancel the service at the end of the free time or else they will charge you!!! there was a few other things also but my mind wont tell me the rest!
 
Thanks for the replies, exactly the sort of answers I was looking for.

I realise that none of its really free, I just wondered what the interest margin on the things were. If i can get a modem for less than R500 then its a ****load cheaper to without the package, I was under the impression they were a grand odd.
 
Put the Telkom flyer in the rubbish bin where it belongs.
 
I got myself a billion 5102 modem/router and its really good, price was about R630 odd.
It has 4ports, and you can connect a hub 2it, thus allowing many users.
 
They are also allowing people to self-install, so technically there's no installation fee now anyway (if you wanna do it yourself).
