One of our home clients, adsl at home, suddenly some sites work others dont - google works - but teamviewer wont connect, skype wont connect.

ISP is us...connected her laptop to my phone via hotspot - everything works, email, skype, teamviewer the works.

tried a netgear router - all green lights on front panel, Netgear GUI - says no internet connection, same problem.

ISP or line issue?

Use different dns servers / trace the destinations you are having issues with, see where it gets stopped. a couple of things it can be actually

Whats also interesting - the router is set to dynamic (get ip from ISP) and the dns is the telkom one rosebank and then cape town - i cannot ping either of them!!! Surely i should? Even forcing the dns on the pc to our other one - nothing...but i can ping our other dns, urg very strange!!

I'm also thinking ISP issue...
so how to fix - remove account and create new one?
any idea what to change?
i've never seen anything like this before

nobody really bothered to try help...

ah ok so you are a reseller and not the actual service provider... I take it you hooked up your notebook to the clients connection, same outcome?

traceroute and ping may not be the tools to use (TCP vs UDP)

Try tcptraceroute (windows = tracetcp.exeoer tcproute.exe) which allows you to do a port specific trace.

That said, try changing your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google). Not all local DNS providers are born equal as I have found.
