SO my daughter kalanded un in hospital and I sned a couple of night on the internet with my phone at here bedside..

I thought i would neve get caust with the out of bundle charges but my mind was elsewate... Yesterday my phone got suspended when i hit my Credit limit of R3900....... ouch.....

Phone 808 asked them to put my phone back on and i purcharsed a 1gig bundle iwth points and a 10 gig bundle cash..

I should be sorted..

Phone got suspended again to day.. phoned mtn as they say the bill in now 9k , i havent used any of my bundle and they can tell me why its 9k from 4k the day before becasue i have not depleted my bundle...

the call centre staff sat i must wait until the end of my billing cycle to find out which is in 5 days.. so potentially another 25 k at risk....

gotta love the logic..

sure the cpa protects me from the spend over my credit limit.., but would be nice to see if someone with a clue from mtn could have a look

Prepaid or TelkomMobile (you get hard capped on data till you ask for more and ironically it uses MTN network if you allow the roaming) is the answer.

I wonder if TelkomMobile gets erroneous/late billing from MTN for roaming customers?

You must have surfed a lot of media content to get such charges?

not really... youtube, in in the space of 3 hours,, looks like youtube was going hd on my lte connection

Can mtn move you to a topup equivalent?

E.g vodacom has smart s and their topup version is called uchoose smart s.

At least you wont be billed out of bundle rates.

Ask Mtn to convert your contract to MtnChoice Topup.

yip, show the system is flawed, I consisder myself a savvy user,

Not savvy enough to make your phone warn you when you've used a certain amount of data for the month? :p

Admittedly, I don't know if iPhone and Windows Phone has that feature and you might have one of those devices, but Android does, under Date Usage under Settings. You can even hardcap yourself technically.

It did warn me at 2 gig and I was like bleh can't be that bad, and I have a max credit limit set on my account. so i wan't to worried. looks like credit limits mean jack. How irresponsible of mtn to allow me to spend above our agreed upon credit limit..

Credit limits don't kick in in time. I've been burnt by this too. Badly.

Dude Mtn is notorious for billing issues and over charging customers. That is why you always choose the topup option for their contracts.

Do you purchase additional data from Mtn or do you get it from Afrihost via the apn?

Ridiculous cellular providers. Totally cut you off immediately when you hit R0 on a prepaid, but oh no, we are unable to do that on contract when you hit your agreed cap. Pathetic.

Do you mean to tell me that everyone in this thread understood what the OP wrote? :wtf:

It happens to all of us dude..

Vodacom, about a year ago. Went to vodashop to put a spend limit on a sim I gave the kids, they subsequently rack up about R3k on data. Query vodacom, they can see I requested the hold but 'their system removed the hold' on the same day and no they cannot refund me as I used the data. But I specifically requested and signed for a limit. Yes but the limit was removed. Who removed it? Our system. Why? We don't know. So you going to have to reimburse me. We can't do that as the data was used.

Eventually just gave up dealing with the issue & went prepaid on all my contracts.

Mobile ISP logic is even worse than government logic. By a very wide margin.

Two different billing systems...The IN (Intelligent Network) billing system on prepaid platforms works in real time...your contract subscriber has the older none real time system...you make a call, your VLR, sends your HLR the call data, that is fwd to the billing system, this whole process is none real time. So if you have a limit set, which is on the billing platform....you are still able to exceed your limit, as your call data is still being processed.

Best solution, be on a TopUp...you have more control.

Yes, but TelkomMobile has a realtime one... damn TelkomMobiles superior programmers! (yes yes, they don't have to support as many legacy systems as VC, I know)

All software problems are fixable with programming, VC just doesn't care enough to spend money on such programming.

overhaul and updating of their legacy systems, that is going to be a pretty penny, something that VC/MTN is not going to do;-)
