So I have run into some free time and would like to try out WAR for a month or two. As I am at work I am restricted to a slow slow slow connection and cant research some things for myself.

If you could help me out, I would like to jam this game with some SA players:

- Where can I find WAR and whats the cheapest I will get two months of game time for.
- How is the latency. Does the game DC alot? Is the lag bearable?
- In terms of levelling: is it the boring monotonous grind of WoW? Do I have to spend 5 hours a day walking between areas?

And add any other info that you think will inspire me play this :P

I'll be as honest as I can,
-Friend of mine picked it up for me at BT Games. I also saw it at Incredible Connection. Since it's an EA game it should be available commonly. Cost is, 1st month free, then approximately 120, 150 bucks per month, so your first 2 months would be about 150, then 150 per month thereafter.

-Latency appears no better or worse than WoW. The game queue's actions/keypresses so lag isn't a huge factor. However as a melee class I struggle with out of range errors when opponents move around a lot. I don't DC much but it does seem to be less tolerant of lag spikes than WoW.

-Levelling starts off very quick and non-grindy. But by the time you hit level 25 or so it starts to become a massive grind. XP gain is really slow, and the quests are boring so you spend most of your time farming scenarios, which can be fun but can also be frustrating.

It's a good game but let me tell you right now, it has issues. Most of my fun I had in Tier1 and Tier2, but the content seemed to degrade in quality as I progressed. Now that I am nearing 'endgame' the Realm vs REalm is problematic, the game has technical problems with trying to render dozens if not hundreds of people onscreen and turns into a slideshow and lagfest of epic proportions. Mythic is frantically working on sorting things out but the way things seem to me right now, most of the fun is to be had in the early levels. If you buy WAR, don't rush. Take your time. At this stage there's nothing much to see or do at Tier4.

Not trying to be negative and put you off it, I still love it and am still playing it and probably will still be playing it for a while, hoping that patch 1.1 fixes a lot, adds a lot... but consider this a warning. This is a PVP game. The PVE is crap (or at least, not up to WoW standards). And the the PVP itself is at this stage, kinda broken. There's a lot of potential but in it's current form, it has issues that you need to be aware of before making a judgement call. 6 months, a year from now I think this will be a great game, if it survives that long.

Well as Skurm said, up till lvl 20 or so is a blast, you PvE while you queue in scenarios(That's sort of like BG in WoW) and gain really good Xp from pvp, it slows down after that.

From what I've seen in tier 4 (lvl 30-40) with the latest patch 1.1 the open RvR Seems a little more lively, the game improves with each patch and the developers really are upping the ante every time an update is released.

Basically if you like PvP you will enjoy this game! The frantic scenario sessions I've had leave me with a smile on most occasions ;)
