Got my new macbook! 17-inch Core 2 Duo model. Just the best for me!
Well the OS is very pretty but I am kind of clueless but at least all the System Settings is under one place under the apple icon, I can connect too my wireless network, but I am running route sentry on a XP box, is there a way too share this? Also how do you browse files, when I installed the wireless mouse I looked everywhere for the CD-ROM icon and saw that it placed an Icon on the desktop of the disc, weird and not very windows like. Also what software must I install first?

Also I must say the Zastore service was not very great, I got transferred repeatably to some clueless guy that was obviously not with sales. I eventually got too talk too an Octavia that was very helpfull, she organized for me too pick up one of the last macbooks at their warehouse, I almost missed it for Christmas! Sales seems to be always busy just insist too talk too them, and not anyone else. Hehe all my friends is going too be so jealous!

Congrats!

Most file browsing is done from the finder (desktop). It's in a hierarchal structure like most other systems.

As for what apps - depends on what you want to do with it. :)

Congrats! There's a thread here somewhere about "What to do with your Mac" or something or the other ... everyone listed their favourite software in there

As LandyMan always likes to say - Please feel free to read the manual :p

Liar liar pants on fire ... I would NEVER EVER utter the swearword that is manual :D

But yeah, they say the manual is full of useful information, but if you are too lazy to read (like me) ask around, I am sure someone (read bwana) will be able to assist ;)

Thanks, also weird the application's menu are on the top "task bar" after a while it seem weird that no apps have menus and then I saw that the top bar changed everytime.

That is one of the things I love most about MAC OS ... you have all these, let's call it floating windows, all over the screen, all menu items in the Title bar (I think - check the manual, it should be in there :D)

Congrats on the monster...
Make sure u pop round to your friendly neighbourhood istore for the free training sessions...
You'll pick up a lot of tips and tricks for noobs.

Just explore the desktop and dock, you'll learn a lot. Tip of the day: Drag and drop gets most things done!

Just my preference, but I think that you'll find you don't need the mouse cuz the trackpad is just so cool - unless ur running with the lid closed, or precision graphics:)

Go to System Preferences/Mouse & Keyboard/Trackpad and enable two finger scrolling/clicking/and two finger right click.

Give it a go and see how u like it.

Well - to be fair the tail-less mighty mouse is really cool. :D

I agree, it rocks (still struggling a bit with the right-click though) ;) The track pad is also very nice, but I can't work all day on the little pad .. I need a mouse.

You will see all CD Drives, Network Folders, USB Drives, etc appear in the Finder (as well as the desktop)
The Finder is the icon on the left of your Dock

Yeah, I was surprised how nice the trackpad was! On other laptops it was useless and I literally developed calluses on my fingertips. That's why I got the wireless mouse, and it being an apple computer it had too be an apple mouse too, and as everyone now they are considerably more expensive than others. Still I love the mighty mouse I have used it for only a couple of hours and it's actually worth every penny.

I've hidden mine. It helps me forget about some of the partitions that I dont want to mess with inadvertently - for the ones I really need I just create a shortcut.

Hmm, I might have the opportunity to get a new MBP 17" into the country with a customs walk through. looking at the price, it is about R20k.

What do you guys think I'll get for my MBP 17" Core Duo (4 months old)?

I've got a couple attached to the mini's - work just great, but I only use a mouse on the MBP when I'm in windoze on bootcamp.

BTW is there a way I can get the new bootcamp drivers only - without having to download the 143mb dmg?

I seriously doubt, with the way software stands today, that you'll notice much of a difference.

Just my 2¢.

In terms of pure number crunching power, you'll notice the C2D.
The iMac 2GHz C2D rips DVD's about 10-15min faster than the 2.16GHz CD MBP
