So as per the title, I got myself a 1 year old Samsung Galaxy Note 2 today. I swapped it with my Sony Xperia Z and so far I'm very happy. Just wanted to know whether the 4.3 update is available in South Africa as of yet? If not, any idea when it's coming?

Also, any recommendations on covers and apps/games

I would recommend the Paranoid Android ROM. Allows you to change the DPI which utilises the screen properly.

Excellent move :)

Treat yourself to a Note 2 flipcover, a 32GB OR 64GB MicroSDHC memory card and throw in an official Android4.3 Note 2 ROM from SamMobile and enjoy your new beast. :D

I'm enjoying my Xperia Z so why may I ask did you trade it in?

Enjoy your Note 2!!

It is a fabulous phone & one of the best phones Samsung has ever made!!

I found that in direct sunlight the screen reflected with some small shiny dots everywhere. I have seen over the internet that there are issues with self-cracking screens, vibration stops working, very tight SIM slot on some (maybe that gets better with time?) and so on. I really loved the phone but was a bit scared that some of the issues on the internet happened to me as I don't want to end up with a hefty repair bill.
Then the other thing is that I change phones quite often and wanted to try the Note 2 to see if I could manage the size so that I can get a Note 3 or maybe the replacement / S5 in the second half of next year - The Note 3 is essentially the phone at the top of my list at the moment.

So nothing really bad with the Xperia Z, just some worries I could do without :) It's an amazing phone;)

With regards to moving to 4.3, I do NOT want to root so as to not void the warranty. So any way that I can do an update without affecting anything related to warranty would be good. Knowing me, I will sell the phone before the one year remaining warranty is finished and warranty is a good selling point :)

Sammobile ROMs are official, do not require rooting, and do not void your warranty. 4.3 is available there...

Perfect, that seems like a good option. But if I do end up having to send it in, won't they question how I put it on my phone? Since in theory it should only be updated via OTA or KIES??:p

They can only question you if your warranty is void. They are bound by the terms of the warranty...

Just wanted to know the following before I go ahead... When flashing a ROM from a different country, what will the difference be and will that cause an issue with Samsung warranty? Can I move to the SA ROM when it comes out? I've read about KNOX and that there is a count that increases if the device has been modded, does this affect it - if not now, will it be affected if I upgrade to another ROM from SamMobile in the future? Is there a way of updating without losing my user data? What would you consider to be the most detailed guide for doing this, I've looked around but not too happy with what I've found?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help:) I'm already loving this phone:love: Filled half of the internal 32GB already without music or pics:D
