Can't wait...wanna see if that antenna will work as they say. It's quite expensive though, but I'll buy it if it works.

Can you also put the packet loss for me as well plz?

ok so far you guys request before and after packet loss / latency ....

i'll be running ping www.iburst.co.za not sure on what packet sizes i need to set ...

lemme know what else you wanna test ...

oh and will do the speed test @ iburst website

You can get this antenna for R300 from the member GRES on here right?

So you dont have to buy it from phoenix.net

oke test failed .... due to reason that i have to many trees and buildings in my path to the tower hense the extreme directional is picking up more garbage than signal ...

going to a friend's house tomorrow where we will have Line of sight to the tower ... will be testing with normal modem antenna and then with the derectional one ....

stay tuned ....

Ulness 'GRES' is %the_guy% from phoenixnet (I'm being polite (for a change :D) and not posting his name) I don't see how that will work ..because phoenixnet MAKES those things. I know because the one time (for now, I haven't had a need for another one since then) I got one from him I went to his premises AND spoke with him and got a bit of a tour around his workshop.

Also, the higher up the dBi scale you go with an antenna, the more highly directional it becomes - and while I don't know the specs for this one, I do know that the commercially made ones I buy (for MyWi, but they're regular Wi-Fi ones) at this level ,see here, can have beamwidths at 20deg (so 10deg either side of centreline ..and that's NOT a lot) and less. So yes: one ends up having to pay a LOT more attention to aiming them correctly  ..for which task I find a properly fed GPS an invaluable tool.

"Ulness 'GRES' is %the_guy% from phoenixnet" - wrong.

Phoenixnet is distributor for the antennas designed and manufactured by me.

GPS is very good tool.

Another big issue for the antenna positioning is the METAL objects around (reinforcement and cables inside of the wall!). ALL metal (conductive) objects can retransmit radio signals and in some points they come in antiphase and the total signal will be zero. Therefore it is very difficult to predict behaviour of the antenna INSIDE the building. Trees are working exactly same way. In many cases one have to move antenna for +/- 1m to have extra 10dB of the signal.

I can mention another 20 different issues which can affect proper function of the system.

In fact to “play” with high frequencies you have to have knowledge and experience and antenna straight from me for R300. Otherwise you have to pay to the people, who can do this job for you.

Oh! ..er, um: well, I'm just going by what I was told (and what I think I remember of the occasion). I certainly don't mean to misrepresent/take from anyone's work!

So? What's the results?

Are you sure you placed the antenna on all possible areas? I was hoping to have seen some good results :(

I wanted to get an antenna that kicks ass...but I'll have the same problems liek you if I buy that...

My iBurst antenna was installed on Friday (the flat panel one....). Best speed I got on a lot of places was about 500kbps. The antenna did not look nice where it was and I wanted to move it 5cm so that it blend in with the pole it's on. My average speed went up to 700 - 900kbps. :D

btw: we spent about 2-3 hours to get the best reception. I noticed that even 1cm up/down or left/right have a huge influance on the speed.

QFT - but i also only found that out last weekend, i moved my iburst like 10 degrees and the signal dropped 10db. Maybe it's the windsurfer that makes it that bad. Moved it closer to the window and tried all the directions (yes, 10 degrees at a time, lol) and got a good signal now, it's probably 3db better now for me.
