Dubai has no income tax. Combine that with I don't pay for rent or my car or my medical, then I'd say yea, I sort of have a nice income :)

It's good enough to pay off my debt in about 12 months which isn't bad. The only crap is to get the money in S.A at a decent exchange rate. If the rand falls with 6 cents I lose out on about R2000. And every bit I can send back counts.

I'm currently trying to get my bank account organized here (should have my residence visa after I come back from SA in June) so that I could perhaps borrow here and pay off my debt there.

The interest rate here is like 5% compared to my loans in SA which is around 23-26%

Plus working in only the currency here would give me the benefit of being able to pay off the loan I make here within 12 months AND save at the same time.

I'm the IT manager for a web design/ development company but I also do some programming. Mostly just trying to organize the **** storm I walked into as the previous guy "gave up" doing any work for the last 5 months citing reasons like "He does not want to" and "Its too much effort"

Why they had to wait till this ****er quit is beyond me... but I'm not complaining :)

I got the job by pure luck actually, had the nicest CV + experience. Didn't study anything for it. I just sent out my CV to as many people who would care to listen, but I must admit its easier trying to find a job while you're here than anything else.

I'm doing okay ;)
 
I got a break about 6 years ago with a company that only started out (I was their principle employee) and started as a programmer. Went senior from there etc. Last year quit my job because I wasn't entirely happy there and the stress got to me. Wanted to do my own thing and break out of the mold basically. Previous to that was a developer for 2 years and previous to that a manager in an internet cafe...

Hard work will get you everywhere...
