Ok So I bought myself a copy of Vista. After reading loads of reviews I wasn't expecting much.

So keeping with the not expecting much attitude I was not disappointed.

The only two really nice features that stand out for me at the moment is:

1. The new search function is great! It works so well!

2. Performance. I am running Vista Home Premium on a 1.7 Ghz Laptop with 1.5 gig ram and 128 shared video card. I have to say that it runs very well. Programs load supper fast!

But that's all that really stands out to me!

What stands out to you as a user?

How does it compare to Google Desktop?

How much u pay for it??

512mb of ram, vista alone sucks up 70% of that and you still got office, antivrus, firewall, adobe and whatever else to load, leaves you with say 7mb, 1gig is a minimum I say.

i think if xp could run on 128 meg ram and run office anti virus firewall adobe whateva i think vista will manage on 512 k :)

I'm running it on a PC with 512mb (32mb of that goes to onboard graphics) and it works okay. You can tell its slower than my own PC with 2GB, but its not that bad.

It Vista Ultimate too, but Aero gets disabled by default, due to the terrible onboard SIS graphics.

And I'm busy re-installing XP. I loaded Vista Ultimate and

My SCSI scanner doesn't work and isn't supported
My MFP device is not properly supported and HP's fix is to buy new hardware
Neither of my Kingston or Transcend USB memory devices can be installed
My nVidia card makes rebooting a nightmare of safe mode and last working settings

Yep, Vista is pretty and has some nice features, but if using it means I have to replace all of the unsupported non-working stuff, then the cost is far too high.

I just installed Vista in a VM on my Mac ... boot-up is alot slower than XP, but it looks perty (sic) and once it is booted, and flies. Oh, VM is running on 768Mb memory
