Government welcomes e-toll ruling

Is he insinuating that the Law is just another branch of government ? I have long suspected this to be the case.

Dear Guavamint,

Please explain to us the benefit in terms of economy and sustained growth

1) the exorbitantly expensive system Sanral chose to collect fees for road building
2) why the cost per kilometer of our newly built roads is so much higher than international prices
3) why cheaper and more efficient alternatives weren't considered in place of spending billions
4) why the public wasn't consulted and informed at the time of your decisions.

It is our money after all, and we have the right to ask whether you made the best decisions on our behalf or not. Given the track record of the ANC wasting billions and enriching themselves through corruption we have every right to hold you accountable.

IMO, I think E-Tolling is a great idea. Imagine having to stop and queue at tollgates for long periods of time. This relieves serious congestion and speed up your daily trip.
But, I agree, they have to rethink the price.
I know down here we don't have this. However, we are contemplating moving to PTA sometime next year. I for one don't want to stop at any tollgates getting to work and back.

I'm aware of the lack of public consultancy etc etc etc. But it's done, move on.

it's not done yet, and your attitude is so typical of SA in general, people will get a bug up their ass about Woolies and carry on about boycotting but when it comes to something like this we must all just lie down, roll-over and play dead? **** that!

I pay a fuel levy which is meant to pay for road upgrades and maintenance, if SCAMRAL think they are going to get one cent out of me they have another thing coming :mad:

What about the areas like Pretoria North where I have to go through a toll gate AND pay e-toll on top of that? So not only do I and thousands of other motorists still have to stop at a toll gate, we're also paying double the toll that the rest of Gauteng is paying. So I'm terribly sorry, but the government can really shove off with a big F.
 
I still fail to understand the need for toll-roads (except for greasing palms) as a small additional fuel levy (as long as it is directed to road upkeep etc) covers all bases. If you use the roads more than your neighbour i.e.consume more fuel, you pay more to repair the roads. Does it get anymore simple?

Have you ever actually been in JHB or PTA...? (Because it really doesn't seem that way based on your perceived Idea of the "toll gates")

Here is an even better idea: No tolls at all. No e-toll. No manual toll. Nothing.

We can use the damn budget/fuel levy to fund this crap. Cheaper, more convenient, less wasteful and sane.
