'Govt bungling land reform'

Cape Town - The clumsy manner in which the government is currently attempting to push through land reform will cost it dearly, said Theo de Jager, deputy president of Agri SA and its spokesperson on land affairs.

De Jager said when the Zuma government took over the reins in April this year it sounded the death knell for the principle of willing buyer/willing seller, without investigating the real reasons for the hike in property prices.

De Jager said government was now acknowledging that half of the farms that changed ownership owing to land reform were already no longer productive while the rest were following close on their heels.

For all of you that said what happened in Zimbabwe wouldn't happen here. I have news for you, much like Zimbabwe a mere 20 years after ZANU-PF took over it fell into economic ruin when the economy, no thanks to "land reform", collapsed; it is already happening here!

We are on a similar path to destruction where we will soon be unable to feed the masses if the farms cease functioning.

Well it wouldn't. Of course, in that instance, land reform would be the least of this country's worries.

Fortunately at the moment the fallout is quite contained. But if they continue to ignore the obvious we may really be in for what our northern neighbours suffered by pretending all was fine and dandy :/

You know even I've noticed that with some threads in this part of the forum. Blooming frustrating sometimes, people are more interested in slagging off countries etc in other parts of the world than taking an active interest in THEIR country and what's happening to it. When it's too late when things have taken a turn for the worse, those same people that ignore this type of thread are going to be crying saying they didn't see it coming, and then asking the world to help them, by allowing them to be refugees (what a laugh, since the loudest posters opposed the Huntley decision), although the poll indicated otherwise last time I checked.

Burn those bridges, hide those heads in the sand, I'm sure South Africa will be very successful in the future!

Sure, I guess this might sound racists, and probably is, but for any handover to be considered a success, it has to preform at least 100% better than in the manner that the previous owners handled it. If a farm grows 100 cases of potatoes, then the new owners must double that to be considered a success. Doing the same as the previous owners, just means that the handover was done to make a point. My reasoning is that in the future, hopefully, we would all be considered of equal value, to the country. And as such not be given special treatment for who we are. In other words, we would have to prove that we are better than the previous owners.

These failing farms, why was no hand holding given to the people who got these farms? Is it because the cost of the hand holding, would have far outweigh the returns from the hand over. Give the farms back to competent, and by this, I mean of course, white Dutchman broers and see how well they farm it. This is a fact, that should be used by the country, instead the small minded, limited vision party hacks, play the game to keep themselves and their boy friends in power.

Can someone show a handover of any type, that has done better than the original owners where doing with it. Of course, I am talking about handing over businesses, farms etc, to black folk, where the farms, etc, were once white owned. Anyone?
