GPRS became useless.

I have done some digging into this so thanks for the patience. There is congestion on some of our base station backhaul links due to the big order we placed for the hundreds of 3G and EDGE links, which happened at the same time as standard GPRS growth has been escalating rapidly since the tariff relaunch.

If you are in an area awaiting a link you will experience congestion (typically between 19h00 and 23h00) and if the link has already been upgraded by an additional 2 megabits/s you should be smiling.

On an number of the affected sites we have found workarounds as well to reduce the impact until the new links are in.

After months of weighing up various options for broadband, I discovered MTN GPRS/Edge and was thrilled by the reasonably good connection speeds and low cost.

But, since the connection became useless, during 19h00 and 23h00 (the only time I surf)....I actually find myself re-considering applying for a TELKOM ADSL connection. I hate unreliability...no matter what the excuse...

Who delivers the links?

Just think about who delivers the backhaul links to cellular operators and who delivers ADSL...

I hate hellkom!

They are a detriment to this country's progress.
