GPRS modems

tell me, if i have say a samsung z500(gprs,3g)

i connect the phone to my comp, it picks up the phones internal modem.

then i goto the windows network connections screen and create a new connection.
what would the dial up number, username, pass be?
for it to dial using gprs/3g and not a normal gsm call

u have to setup a special connect sting in modem settings
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"

and ur dail up # would be
*99***1#
if i remember correctly
leave username and password blank

Hi,

any recommendations on GPRS modems?

I'm looking for an external modem with USB connectivity, or even better Ethernet with PPPoE.

You'll find some GPRS and EDGE modems at http://www.3g.co.za/
- SAMBA 75 EDGE/GPRS USB Modem
- SAMBA 55 GPRS USB Modem
- TANGO 55 GPRS Modem

Take a look at the link to "Downloads and Documentation" (at the bottom of the Specs) for more information on these modems and the connectivity software included on the CD.

The SAMBA 75's software also supports MMS. :)

For Ethernet connectivity you may want to try out the SAMBA modems with a USB to Ethernet adapter like the one at http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-usb-ethernet-2996.html
I haven't tested the SAMBA modems with a USB to Ethernet adapter but if it works please let us know.
