Can anybody tell me which GPS software for android has the most up to date maps ?
Currently using Co-Pilot but maps are from 2009. Had to navigate to a Office block the other day but it wasn't on the map although it has been there for a few years already.

Thanks

Maybe give this a try?

Got navigation working in SA with Brut Google Maps. Basically, it's exactly the same as the official Google Maps but the internal location has been modified to the US so we can use it. You can install it alongside the official Google Maps without any issues. You can find it at the XDA developers forum: http://forum.xda-developers.co...
Just install the package using a file browser/manager like Astro (available on the Market).

Going to play around with it as I drive to work.

Take pics and mms to me! lol

Let us know how it works. This is one thing that worries me for if I want to switch to Android. GPS nav software. With my Vodacom Blackberry we get Vodafone Satnav that works pretty well. If I get a Android device and I still need to buy Navigation software I will be one pissed off mo! :-)

Lol, will report back after 2pm.
Without pics! They're personal :D :p

Ok, so did a trip from home in Strandfontein to Century City, Milnerton.

Searched by voice and it chose the correct option.

Took under 2 minutes to locate me and then the fun began.
Actually first did a short trip to a friend's place in the neighbourhood to see how it would handle quick turns.
It rather failed - I was being placed on the map in the road adjacent to where I was, kept on re-routing me whenever I took turns which was on the route, but the satellites got me all wrong.
This however could be down to my cooked ROM and modem.

Anyway - onto the trip to work.
Accuracy improved, a helluva lot.
Directions were spot on, through it a bit of a curveball again by going slightly off route (a side road), it took less than 30 seconds to re-route and put me on my way.
During this trip to the office, the accuracy was much better.
It was spot on with where I was in association to side roads I was passing.
Even the sharp left and right that I took to go off route, was accurate.

So perhaps it needs more time to get a better fix - I don't know = more testing will let me know for sure.
Twas funny having the american lady giving turn-by-turn directions with all of the "weird" street names we have - at least she got Paarl right :D

One annoyance (which may be my fault as I've not figured it out yet) - while navigating, I can't find a way to "Stop" the route that I'm on and just have the software follow me around.
But then again - I suppose that's what normal Google Maps are there for.

Occie - I too have used SATNav with my BB Bold 9000 some time ago - heck a few months ago on my friend's curve - and it's damn accurate and fool proof.
Not as detailed as this Google Navigation, but at least it didn't put me in a pond when I was stationary at an intersection :p

I've just got to put this software through it's paces some more before I have a final verdict on it.
For now - I like it - I don't really ever have the biggest need for GPS and Navigation software, but we all know that it's fscking handy at times :)

Wow...cool beans...great report back S&B. Sounds like Satnav is better....for now. If I remember correctly, the Google Nav is in beta still...so perhaps they still sorting out some kinks. Also, technically speaking, it is not supposed to work in RSA...so perhaps that is also a factor.

True - this is the hacked version and it's based on 4.6 not 5.1 which is the latest Google Maps.

Glad you found the feedback useful.

If I find any changes of note - I'll post here again wrt to this software.

Great...perhaps some other Hemorrhoid peeps can load it also so we can see how it performs in other cities and on different phones.

Thanks for all the info but the Google navigation lady is horrible. I can't hear wtf she's saying. Any way to replace her?
