gps on phones

sorry guys i've never had a gps phone and i'm not that technical could you please explain to me what garmin mobile xt is ,and can you install it on any gps enable phone especially the ones that doesnt come with gps for life and how does it work,how to you get it and how do you install it

GMXT is a navigation app for Symbian and WM handsets. It can use an internal/integrated or external GPS (via bluetooth, usually).
It works well and quite closely resembles the Garmin Nuvi dedicated GPS devices.
You'll need plenty of storage for the SA maps.

and im guessing you have to pay for the software how much does it cost and if you load it how long is it for cause ive heard about gps only working for 3,6 and 12 months on certain phones ,does loading garmin mobile xt mean you have gps for life on your mobile

I *think* so. But you don't get free map updates - you have to pay for those if you don't want to be directed into walls, dams, etc.

im getting the i780 ,which i believe has gps for life ,but have another upgrade due ,thinking of getting the G810 which does not have gps for life but has a awesome feature similar to n95 i think

No, all the major GPS companies licence their maps on a per device basis.
The licence does not move with the user but stays with the device.
Their motto is One Handset One Licence.
When you get a new phone, you'll need to buy a new licence.
Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile costs about R1000 for SA maps.
