What do you think of the palm-top GPS activated palm top. Am interested in getting a GPS street nav module and would appreciate any input from peeps in SA.

What I know:
Additional Maps must be bought - maps for europe and often single cities can be paid for and downloaded online.

What I don't know:
Would a simpler garmin device be better, I like the idea of having the palm top, some offer sim card cell type connectivity.
Battery life issues, reliabiltity

What I think I know:
I saw a palm top advertised with GPS street nav for just over 3K. The one with sim card cell was 6K
The technology on the palm top scene is not that new and therefore not hellishly expensive.

Its up to you really I just use my iRiver, it does all the same stuff has a 6 gb hdd and costs less.

Hmmm.. Thank you very much for the input folks :)
@Person: Yeah, how do you do GPS?
@Angellus: Looks very handy:
How big were the map packs you bought for the US & cost?
Map pack 2004, added cost or comes with unit?

... I will have to stop being lazy and go look this stuff up :D It's very useful however to talk to those who've used the units and can rant or rave about it.

Am looking to spend roughly 3k. I'm a mostly low tech so don't need to have the fastest, best, whip-ass, killer, uber unit ;)

The Handimap software looks very good. I like the angled view. Looks like I will have to pry some more hard earned buckazoids outa the piggy bank than I initially intended.
