GPS pricing and software

I was in Cape Union Mart (or whatever the name has changed to now) and saw some GPS software for sale, next to the actual GPS devices.

The prices weren't that bad either...

I have a JJ. And bought a GPS receiver, software (handymap 2005) and 250M SD card for R3000 at the PDA shop in Sandton

Its works very well!

HandyMap 2005 / Garman software? I've used HandyMap before, but sure that there are better software out there. Compared to a normal Garman GPS, the HandyMap software is really limited.

Not sure if Garman software is available for Windows Mobile though....

For traffic navigation the handymap software is brilliant (at least in Gauteng, which where I'm using it).
The great part about it is the extensive dbase of POI's (point of interest), i.e. restaurants, banks, etc etc
So lets say you find yourself somewhere in JHB CBD and urgently need to get your hands on a Steers cheese hamburger; just look up "fast food joints" in a 2 km radius and voila! it wil direct you there:cool:

Otherwise it can do most of the other things, like avoiding certain areas, alerting you to speedtraps, etc And you can update the map for free every 6 months.

cheers
