On the way to work, you see the same people, day in day out, using their GPS units, everyday! Surely they would know how to get to work by now? So stupid!

If they're like me... the GPS never really leaves the car actually... its plugged in permanently.

And if you have a Garmin unit you'll know where the speed traps are as well as your true speed.

You would know this already, cause it would be your normal route to work everyday anyways.

Don't be jealous.

Go buy yours at Makro and then we can wave to eachother, pointing smugly at our GPS units.

I have one lol, but i dont see the need to put it on every single day while i go to work on exactly the same route!

The only thing that would give person a license to keep it on is if it updated the fastest route because of traffic

... every morning you see it it gives you the best way to get there.

mine does the above, but it built into the car, so it cant be removed.(made it myself). ikeep it on the whole time because
1) if there is an accident and i want to reroute it will do this for me, i dont often drive "to" work from the same "home" place so the route is a bit different and sometimes unfamiliar
2) logging of all journeys....so if i am in an accident i have proof of my speed. and yes, i do stick to speed limits, religiously.

to those that reckon a gps is good for accurate speed readings, just think what happens when you are on a downhill or an uphill, and you will see how inaccurate it actually is..use the maths:-)
i'll agree on a straight road at a steady speed it is more accurate than a speedometer

It's a pity RSA doesn't have a traffic avoidance services in place as they do in Europe - then you would get a different 'quicker' route.

Any idea how come? What do we need this side to get it working?

I fear putting this in my car wind shield....has potential of attracting unwanted attention(criminals).

May I suggest you remove the "so stupid" part as it should now be clear to you that most people have a good reason for having them working all the time!

How would you know anyway! The GPS unit can be on and not being used for routing! Or did you not know that?

Whilst not the best possible solution, I find the "Detour" button/option on the Nuvi 310 helpful in this regard.
