Hi guys,

Need a bit of advice here. I have someone who is selling their Geforce Titan for R7500. I am currently running a 9800GT in my rig so definitely need an upgrade. Is the Titan still worth it, especially compared to the GTX970/GTX980. Is the price of the Titan worth it?

Thanks in advance chaps

CPU - Core i5 750 (the original i5)
RAM - 12GB
MoBo - MSI P55GD80

Anything else that will be of consequence?

I use my pc for gaming and downloading only. I want to play GTA5 next year and Shadow of Mordor now.

Edit: Are prices for GPUs generally better at Rage?

Titan was never, ever worth it.
The new 980 is a very good value/performance card. It's almost as fast as the titan, and in SLI its unbeatable at the price.

WTF? You want to play GTA and Shadow of Mordor but want to buy the Titan?
Are you bat**** crazy?
I'm thinking the person selling it is looking to skrew you.

You pc would bottle neck the card imo.

It most likey will bottleneck any new GPU that I can get, need to do an upgrade but will be maybe 2 years till I actually get around to doing it.

^^THIS

Best value for money card without having to worry about a hefty PSU.

I have to do a PSU upgrade anyway, running too many hard drives.

Dude, you're looking to spend thousands on a totally over the top GPU.
Why not spend that cash on a cpu upgrade and rather buy a R3000 AMD like folks suggested?

Instead of spending over 7k on a card now, just get something around 3000-4000 now, then in 2-3 years get something new around the same price if you feel the need.

So either the R9285 - R9290X or something like the GTX770 (wootware has the MSI one for just under 4k IIRC)

I doubt your PC has enough wattage to run the Titan alone.

Graphics Card Power (W) 250
Minimum System Power Requirement (W) 600 W.

PS: the GTX 780TI is better than the Titan.

Check out the R9 280x

It's like a grand more expensive. price/performance isn't as good if you ask me.

The 285 is at the sweet spot now. Power draw is comparatively low for the performance as well.

"The" gamer card to get now.

Wootware has the 285 for R2999 and the 280x for R3399.

Should have known wootware gets good prices on everything :)

I suppose if you need the performance it's worth it. The power draw goes up by a lot though. So much of muchness.

Why not just buy secondhand? Carbonite.co.za has good deals from time to time, I picked up an Asus R9 290 DCU2 OC a few months ago that still had 2.5 years warranty left for R4500 (was R6300 when new), just buy from someone that has a good rep and you won't have any problems
