So I have about R1200 to burn this month and I'm wondering what to get.

1. A GPU Cooler for my noisy Club 3D 6870

2. A new PSU to simply replace my 650w Coolermaster, cause I require 2 more molex connectors, and the fan is noisy(bearing problem).

3. Or a new keyboard, mouse, mouse pad and headphones, cause they are kinda worn out..

What I want to know is what GPU Cooler would you recommend to me and why? it needs to fit my Club3D 6870, which is this one here: http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/radeon-hd-6870.642.html

Would it cool down the GPU enough that it wouldn't really need to increase the fan speed while I'm gaming? I can post temps if you want.

Will have a look for you over the weekend. But just about any after market air cooler will be fine, but... they usually have more fans (noise) which dump heat back into your case.
I'd rather go option 3, since headphones will drown out any noise your GPU may have anyway.

thanks for the quick reply, if getting a GPU cooler will just make it more noisy then yeah I'd rather just go for option 3 hey.

I'll double check over the weekend. Could be that with a larger heatsink, with more fans but at lower speeds noise wil be reduced

Ya normally the after market coolers are quieter as they pack a crap load of fins, with a fan in the middle (or three), so they usually slow speed, or come with a fan controller that you can adjust. They do dump the heat in your case as opposed to the shroud blower style most new GPU's have that expel the heat out the back of your case.

The only after market GPU cooler i've bought was a zalman vf1000 for my 4850 a few years ago.. Was awesome and ran alot quieter and cooler than stock.

Something like this would be your best bet, but is quite pricey for just a cooler if you not going to OC :) http://www.prophecy.co.za/arctic-co...treme-plus-cooler-hd687058705830-p-85476.html

Here is a general thread on 6870/6850 aftermarket cooling: http://www.overclock.net/ati-cooling/850451-unofficial-6800-series-aftermarket-cooling-thread-6.html

Personally, I would stay away from that Arctic cooler unless you are willing to get rid of your drive cage and get a VGA retention bracket. At 900g, I would be very worried about bending the card, and it looks to be too long for a CM Scout unless you take out the drive cage. It does give awesome cooling, though.

Of the ones we can get here, I would go with the Zalman VF3000A. It weighs in at half of the Arctic one, is not nearly as long, and comes with its own fan controller if you want to manually adjust the fan speed. You will, however, probably need to get a VRM heatsink or at least mod the one that comes with it. It is also cheaper than both the Arctic and the TR Shaman that PP mentioned, but not as effective if you are trying to maximise cooling. The benefit of the Shaman is the larger fan, for better cooling at lower noise levels.

Here is a little review of someone putting a VF3000A onto a 6870 (note that he doesn't put a heatsink onto the VRMs, which is not really the best move imo): http://pendi-blog.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-vga-asus-eah-6780-plus-zalman.html

Just be aware that aftermarket coolers are usually very wide and make the card take up 3 if not 4 slots.

If you can get that Zalaman I'd also take it over the Accelero as yes it's lighter, I think it looks better, and will most prob be about ~R450

But just look for reviews on the cooler before you buy.
Also read some of the user reviews on newegg. I find that very useful.

I found it here: http://www.wootware.co.za/zalman-vf...quad-heat-pipes-memory-heatsink-included.html

Hmmm the noise level seems pretty high hey, given that I want to get a GPU cooler to have less noise in my pc. Also it hasn't been confirmed that it will fit the 6870 afaik but I'll take a risk on that, I also like it after reading the review here: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/zalman_vf3000a/

Nevm it's confirmed on Zalman's site here: http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=385

ok enough editing, I'm gonna get it thanks for all your help guys :)
