Hello,
I have an overheating problem on my GPU all of a sudden - probably made worse by the onset of summer. I thought it was dust in my box but I had done an extensive cleanout recently and it was looking pretty decent in there when I opened it. I powered up the rig with the case open and noticed that the fan on the right was not spinning at the same rate as the one on the left - almost going along in bursts. This was at idle with no 3d app running but leads me to think that this is the culprit. Pretty sure the card is just out of warranty and it was an insurance claim so I don't have the original packaging or anything except the manual.
I removed the fan in question and was reading up on fixes for pc fans. Some of them you can peel the sticker back on the hub of the fan to access the bearing and then clean and lube. With these it's not the case. The bearing is sealed by the look of it. I did try to lube the shaft a bit from the underside to see if it'd help but I'm still running up to 80+ degrees causing crashes here and there.
Wondering if this part is available separately? Where to get? How much?
Also, I didn't prod too much but I'm assuming it's possible to remove that plastic shroud to get to the power plug point since it is not accessible at first glance.
