I've got something weird happening when I play Dota 2 (only game I play). My screen quite literally splits into two. It's like the left side jumped to the right, and the right to the left. It's kind of hard to explain so here are a couple of pics I snapped with my phone (taking a screenshot in this "mode" gives a normal screenshot of a normal screen once I've restarted and view it btw).

Here's one time it happened:

Here's another:

This started happening after I updated my GPU drivers (Dec 2012 to latest) about a month ago. I tried rolling back the drivers but after it happened a couple of times it quite literally broke my PC. Some exe's weren't working any more and were behaving badly so I had to format.

That should of solved my problem right? Nope. The problem still persists. I used some or other GPU stress testing program to test my GPU and it didn't bomb out. I ran it for about a hour at 99%

So the tl;dr version: screen splits into two. I've tried formatting. I'm on the latest driver version. Help.

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Saphire HD6870
4 GB RAM 1600MHz
Windows 8 x64

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Format, reinstall os & older drivers you had before, see if it still happens.

Are you using analog (VGA aka D-Sub) or digital outputs (DVI/HDMI)? Also, is it doing that same thing with another screen?

You can try something like Driver Fusion to try and remove the drivers completely before you attempt to install a different driver again.

Lastly, what are your graphics card temperatures like?

I'm using a HDMI cable.

I don't have access to another screen, unfortunately.

Will do!

Temperatures are fine. The card barely has any load on it when this happens so I guess it's a driver problem. It also only happens when playing Dota 2.

I'll try rolling back to late 2012 and see what happens (I've tried this already, but what the hell I'll do it again).

Maybe its a dota2 compatibility problem....any updates on the game itself before the problem occurred?

That'll be hard to say. The game updates very frequently :(

I uninstalled the drivers and killed all the remaining registry files using Driver Fusion. I then installed the late 2012 one. I then played a game and had a particularly bad crash. No split screen this time. It just went to a black screen with it changing between HDMI and DVI input modes (as it does when the computer is off but the screen is on). All my fans started running at max speed too. I had to turn it off by the back of the PSU.

After I restarted and tried again I was getting noticeably less FPS than I usually get (50-55 instead of 60). I then spectated three DGL games. The first one crashed. The second two didn't.

The annoying thing is that there are no error reports so I have no idea what's wrong. When the split screen happens every else is still working 100%. No display driver crash or anything. After the big crash I mentioned above there was no "windows has recovered from a serious issue" message either.

I think it must be game, or driver, or windows related. Don't think it is your GPU. What does all your other games do? Did you contact Saphire or Valve yet?
