Hi Guys

Just wondering if any of you have ever imported a gpu or used amazon etc. to buy pc components? What was your experience, and would you do it again? Also was it worth your while, and how did you find your experience with the hidden costs?

Correct. They are full of **** when it comes to shipping electronics and software to SA. I agree with NomNom, buying locally is worth it when it comes to warranty claims.

If you still have to import a GPU, then you could consider using http://www.postbox-courier.com/
They have decent rates and specialise in shipping to South Africa.
 
OutletPC ships GPUs to SA, I think. They shipped a QL BD writer to me.
 
When the rand is at like 5 or 6, it makes sense to import but with the rand being close to 9 i think, you might save 500 if you lucky. Much easier to buy local.

If the rand ever returned to 5-6 then sure but for now it's isn't worth importing unless the item so grossly expensive here that you can get for thousands less importing.

The local prices will increase too.
 
Considering I bought a GTX 660 that failed twice within the first 3 months. I wouldn't even think of going international with a GPU order.

GPUs are the single computer component category I've had the most warranty returns on in my history of purchases.

Even hard-drives I've had a better track record.

So yeah, may be that I'm unlucky. Perhaps because I don't buy expensive brands. Either way, I don't trust it without a warranty.

Weird, I had a HD3850 that lasted me 5 years and still going strong, and a HD6850 that lasted almost 2 years...

Sure its not just the GTX660? Or u justpressing it too hard with bad ventilation?

No it isn't and no I'm not. You can search my thread about the GTX660 and judge for yourself if it was "bad ventilation". Parts just lack proper quality control IMHO.

That sucks, I brought both my AMD cards from China. Guess I was one of the lucky ones :D
