After little help in the PC build thread I thought I would open it up here :)

I have now purchased the following

Intel BX80646I54460 Core i5-4460 Haswell Quad-Core 3.2GHz LGA1150 22nm Intel HD Graphics 4600 Desktop Processor Edit Excl. VATR2,279.82

Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3-A B85 LGA1150 DDR3 Micro-ATX Desktop Motherboard Edit Excl. VATR1,084.21

Corsair CC-9011077-WW Carbide 100R Silent Edition Mid-Tower ATX Desktop Chassis Edit Excl. VATR676.32
Western-Digital WD10EZEX Caviar Blue 1TB 64MB Cache Sata6G 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive Edit Excl. VATR657.02
LG GH24NSBO Internal SATA 24x Super-Multi DVD Rewriter Edit Excl. VATR174.56
G.Skill F3-1600C9D-8GAB 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600MHz 1.5V CL9 Dual Channel Ares Desktop Memory Edit Excl. VATR700.88
TP-Link Archer T2U AC600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter
Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 Retail Packaging Keyboard & Mouse Combo Edit

Only thing I am worried about is whether I should change the R 9280x to something else - I have the cash but should I? Would probably mean beefing up from the 500w Super Flower.

Price difference between R9280x and R9290 is R800.00

Never heard back from you.

Sorry Ponder missed that completely

No worries, have a look and see what you think ;)

That thread does look like a wall of builds & I only quoted one line from you, so easy to miss.

The 280x is fine. rather change that Hard drive for an SSD.

Been considering adding a 250gb, I only game at 1080, although I do have an Oculus I like to tinker with and apparently it eats GPUs, my current 7850 barely handles

I have an HD7970 and play at 1080p, and the 280X is a rebadged HD7970 GHz Edition. It's a competent card, but can no longer max out most new graphically demanding games and achieve a decent framerate. I definitely wouldn't recommend downgrading.

Very bad copy and paste job. I have decided to ignore these posts instead.

+1

You need to look at the R9 390 & GTX 970 these days.

Thanks Ponder, think that 970 is a little out of my price range but might try scrape for it

Stick with the 280x or maybe look at the 380. The 380 supports more DX12 features than any nVidia card out now.

The pricing is not far off from the build in your OP, for a few hundred more you get a huge boost in performance. You could even save a bit more by going with a cheaper chassis, a CM 280K is R500 which saves you R267. This is on par with the cost of the build in your OP.

Changed to a R9 290 for R4200, R800 up from the R9 280x,

Just hope the 500w Super flower will handle

Not good enough. You should aim for a minimum of 600-650W I reckon.

That 500W will be close to max load with the system stressed.
