GPU Upgrade: GTX1080 vs GTX1070ti

I'm in the process in upgrading my GPU from my 660ti and can't decide on the graphics, I'm specifically looking at nVIDIA-cards and can't decide between the 1080 or the 1070ti. Current specials have a difference of about +-R700 between the two which is not much, should I rather pay the extra money and score another year or two in future proofing or should I take the 1070ti and stick the family at a nice restaurant? Lastly is this a good time to buy as the new RTX cards have been released pushing the prices down a bit or should I wait another month or two before I purchase as I see 1080's are getting scarce looking at what was available last month (with black-Friday around the corner as well)?

My Specs:
-8GB Gaming ram
-Core i5-7500
-Antec HCG 650w gold PSU
-Gigabyte 660ti OC version
*Gaming is currently done in 1080p and sometimes on my 55" 4K Samsung TV; looking to upgrade to 4k monitor only next year.
 
For 4K everything max except for AA, nothing less than a 1080Ti will do. It will hopefully be good for around 3 - 4 years before everything needs to be at medium on latest games to get 60 fps.

As for waiting, there might be some black Friday specials, but from everything I've seen so far, the 20xx series has been priced so high that nVidia can continue selling the 10xx series at the current prices.
 
Waiting for black-Friday might then be a good idea if prices are not going to drop too soon, I see evetech/raru have quite a few specials on the RTX cards, hopefully they will start to get rid of old 1080 stock sometime this year. With the wonderful budget speech we just had I might have to downgrade to 1440p gaming :unsure:

From what I've read, most problems arise when you have to make use of their after sales support.
It's s bit like buying a Land Rover. As long as nothing breaks, the ownership experience is great, but doom on you should you buy a lemon.
 
PS I think you might be looking at old stock prices on the 1080...
 
Got a good deal on takealot for the "MSI GTX 1080 Gaming x" and took the plunge, very satisfied with the performance. Thanks for all the help/info...
