I am playing call of duty advanced warfare on single player mission.
the game works fine and then all of a sudden it starts to lag a bit, the task manager shows GPU usage at 99.9%. I dont understand.

I played this without any issues around 2 or 3 years back on a much older computer. yes I can lower the display settings, but something doesnt seem right.
below is my system configuration. COD.png

Your gpu should be running at 99%

Your gpu might not however be capable of coping with the games gfx settings you have chosen. With the exception of the gpu the rest of your system specs seem pretty decent.

Can you show us you in game gfx settings?

nvidia geforce experience sucks btw, i would not rely on it to pick the game settings.

It is normal to have usage at 100% even. For better performance you need to have to lower your GPU expectations for performance and also read up on the reviews for your GPU via a search engine like Google.

Driver update?

Other than that drop your aa, ssao, gi and shadow maps.

Or alternatively, set everything to dogsh!t and start switching things on.

I run 2 x 1080s and I still manually tweak everything.

Eg. Shadows, turn that way down and crank it if the card seems stable. You get a feel for each game engine.

It's a ping pong between heat and fps. I prefer higher frames at the expense of fidelity. That water can look realistic as hell, but if it eats 5+ fps, it gets turned off.

Assassins Creed is a great example.

dropped most of the features, the game is running better. I guess thats the only option until I upgrade my card.

This.

If it's not running at 100% whilst gaming, then either your CPU is holding your GPU back, or you're playing some kak old game.

Otherwise check what's using your GPU in Task Manager under the processes tab, that way you'll be able to see if a miner is using GPU resources.

.

Or if you are like me, you have a 60hz monitor and cap your framerate around there or whatever gives you less noticeable screen tear. If you enjoy input lag you may even have Vsync on. Both results in modest GPU usage unless the game is really demanding on your GPU.

So happy to see someone else also understands how vsync causes input lag. There are so many people that just can't believe it,, or understand it it guess. I for one would rather take the screen tearing over the input lag. Matters what game it is too.
