GPU Value Comparisons

R9 390 seems like a winner ,gtx 970 price for almost the performance of a 980.

And it comes "real" 8GB vram ,unlike the 4gb on the 970 :P

It's a no brainer! I need to get this card as soon as it becomes available in SA.

Ok, I'm going to sell my GTX960 this week and will buy a R3 390 when it becomes available on Wootware next month. I'm done with Nvidia. It's full of S. AMD here I come!
Enjoy your godawful drivers and make sure your fire insurance is up to date.

Whoooopppssss.... Rebrands for days!

Benchmarks just released and the R9 300 and 200 series are 95% the same. No real performance increase at all.

If anyone is considering a new GPU. It's best to look at price/performance of the day.

With the new cards out. I personally would just get one of the older cards being replaced now. I bought the R9 290 and I'm extremely happy. I'll admit I'm tempted to buy the R9 390 but it will just be for e-peen reasons. I can't see a real need to replace the R9 290 at this stage.

Yup, no reason to replace my R9 280X as well. R9 290 and R9 390 has a very small performance increase.

Yea in a review of the MSI 9390X I read, the conclusion was that the R9280 and 90 owners need not worry about upgrading, unless the extra VRAM was that important. That being said, as a 3gb R9280X owner, the temptation to go for the R9390X is large. I need to really try and hold off on my compulsion and wait to see what the Fury is priced like.

What worries me about sticking with AMD, is Gameworks from nVidia. It seems to be that 'word' no one wants to mention in a hurry, but sounds like features of it are mentioned a little more frequently.

My Powercolor R9280x just bombed out after owning for just under a year, what boggles my mind is last year august when I purchased it from woot I paid around R3100 if im not mistaken, I look at the price now and its basically the same

Okay, I'm sooooo glad I stumbled upon this post.

I'm now looking at either the R9 280x or the R9 3 series.

So, I've investigated a bit... Check this out

Locally, R7799!!!!!

The performance difference between R9 390 and R9 390x is minimal, but not at the above price :)

P.S I own a Sapphire Radeon HD 7770, so upgrading to either of these would be a fairly substantial step up for me

Yeah, but this is Powercolor. It is crappy imo

Compared to the Gigabyte one??? There's a massive difference.

Nothing wrong with Powercolor at all. Also owned a card for years. They are very good cards with good overclocks out of the box and coolers. Best value for money out there.

Amazon sounds good. Until you have to return that card. Buying local is going to be the better option for GPUs. Your lead time on buying and replacing the card is also going to be long.

I'm sitting next to a guy in the office whose graphics card fan is on the fritz. It sounds like a broken dishwasher. Quality matters with things like fans, cooling, overclocking, warranties, etc. My Lightning model 680 is the quietest running card I've ever had.

That could happen to any brand in all honesty. galax(y)/kfa2 has some of the quietest/efficient coolers & they use top notch components everywhere yet people don't see them in the same light as asus for example but they are much cheaper & get stirling reviews.

Lets look at evga psus which seem to be all the rage these days, they are mostly rebranded super flower at a higher price and people go wtf is this super flower crap yet jonnyguru that tests these things & strips them down recon they are up there with seasonic and in some instances better.

I have a Powercolor HD7970 and it's been awesome since day one. Build quality is no different to any other card I've owned, and it performs brilliantly.

To add to the Powercolor, I've had my 9280x for a little over 2 years now. I'm still surprised by it's performance vs pricepoint, considering when I got it.

Ponder, I've never owned a Galax card, but after very sadly reading the bit about Fury X not being HDMI 2.0 compatible (had my heart set on sticking with the red team), I shall be venturing straight into that brand with the 980 Ti. I have to agree though, the articles I've read about any of the Galax cards are far more positive than negative... no more than I've seen for any of the other "big guns".

Go read up on galaxy's relationship/history with nvidia and as oem provider for other brands, then go look at kfa2's market where they did niche high end stuff. Both top notch companies that merged and due to a trademark dispute (samsung) now trade as galax.

Quick article I found http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2014/09/18/nvidia-partners-galaxy-and-kfa2-merge-to-fo/1
