GPU Value Comparisons

OP, can you give formatted data so I can paste in MATLAB and do some funky stuff? ;)

Matlab, now theres an idea... wonder if mine is W7 compatible... Anyway yes, I can send you the raw data. PM me your email address

Its just been a slow day, but I did most of this during lunch. Hence the next big update can only be tomorrow. The nice thing is no matter where you work if you have excel open with lots of number and graphs its assumed you're working :D

So true....

As for the SLI, the only thing there is that the cost per fps would jump dramatically as you don't see 100% gains from having two cards. Maybe where 2 lower end cards come in at the price of one high-end card? That way one can see whether their upgrade should be a new (most likely more expensive) Gfx card, or just SLI/Crossfire the cheaper one they possibly already own...

Just some quick nerdiness for OP and the rest, here's simple graph from data OP gave me. Blue graph is his way (both linear=price/fps), red one is (price/ln(fps)). The latter one is more appropriate since above x fps, you just don't really care ;) (and hence the metric is weighed more by price rather than performance, at high performance). The natural logarithm can be easily adjusted for a certain fps value by offsetting it [trivial way would be to offset by a=x./exp(x./sqrt(2)) where x = desired fps (60 is a good bet) and a is the multiplicative constant for the fps s.t.: ln(fps/a)].

Yes, I know, WAAAAAAAY nerdy, but this is what I do for a living (the maths and research that is) ;)

OP updated. Next update will most likely only be when the AMD 6000 series comes out unless there is huge demand for a specific GPU to be added.

Nicely done Archer - clearly you put a lot of time into this.

Could you maybe throw in a link to the raw excel data so that those of us who want to crunch the data in another way can do so?

Updates underway for HD68xx GPUs. If anybody has an indication of pricing in SA that would be great, otherwise (for now) I'm just going to make an educated guess.

Updates complete. I'll add the disclaimer here as well - pricing is yet to be confirmed on the HD68xx cards so I have made an educated guess. Price drops on the GTX460 and 470 cards are also expected, so the charts will likely see a change

Pfff, those MSI prices are ludicrous! Glad to see my guesstimate was close though with the Asus cards. I'll leave the pricing unchanged until suppliers actually have stock. I do expect prices to settle closer to R1800 and R2500 for the 6850 and 6870 respectively though (lower than the current estimates)

Ya hopefully they do.. If and when they do settle lets hope it brings nvidia's lil 460's and the 5850's down in price for a nice price war :)

I don't see people buying 5850s with the 6870 being at the same price point or cheaper..

Hopefully the new top end cards wont go beyond R5k, bleh im skipping this refresh anyway :)

Oh Btw, Nice thread Archer ;). These graphs look a little different with our groovy local prices, mostly compared to the Techpowerup.com ones :wtf:

GTX580 updates in progress... again, if anyone has found local prices I'll put them in else I'll guesstimate using Newegg prices
