Hi guys, i'm presently building a new PC for my self. I'm an IT student and I game averagely.
I'm having difficulty choosing between a leadtek or POV 9600GT and a gygabyte 8800GT. (All 256MB)
NB::I Know the 8800GT is faster than the 9600GT
Now the thing is that there are at a difference of R400 and my buget is super tight.
My question is, is the 8800gt worth the R400 difference.

Your help will really be appreciated.
thx...:)

Well, Gigabyte graphics cards (and everything else these days it seems) are exorbitantly overpriced, if that helps.

Unless you're buying second-hand?

Hi...

The 8800gt is a very good card but its an old card now.

I would suggest u try for the 9800gt... It will cost around R2000 but its worth the money

If u live in durban area... send me a PM, and i will try and help you out with purchasing a card

My friend has a 8800GT and I have a 9600GT. I think the 9600GT is better though. In every game my card can run the game at higher settings or same settings with smoother frame rate. There may be other things influencing it but I think the difference between the two would only be about 2%

Agreed. The 9600gt is good value for money with decent performance ;).

save a bit extra and go for a 4850. You can get them for around R2k.
It will be worth the sacrifice of a few extra rand

9800GT is a bad choice IMO. 8800GT is a great card. 9600GT is ok, good value for money. 4670 is great on a budget. 4850 is the price/performance knockout, nothing comes close.

it's basically a 4870, only with a few things removed, but uses the same clocks, IIRC... very cool running card as well.

I disagree. I bought a 9800GTX+ from Prophecy for a little over R2300. The HIS HD4850 is the recommended brand due to good cooling and that goes for R2600 to R2800. The 9800GTX+ beats the HD4850 in almost all benchmarks and is like R300 to R500 cheaper.

Hey guys, maybe I forgot to mention that I work for an online shop (www.nivo.co.za) and i get these products at discount prices.
POV 9600 gt - around R1100
Leadtek 9600 gt - around R1200
Gyagbyte 8800gt -around R1500
cheapest 4850 - around R2000+

So may now you'll understand my choice...

I'll get the POV 9600GT. Plus all POVs 9500GT and upwards come with prince of persia 2008. :)
