Graphics card - 560ti vs. 6870?

I'm looking at getting a graphics card for PC gaming. My budget is about R1600 - R1800. I've read quite a bit of reviews and, as far as FPS go, I really can't see a big difference between the 6870 and the 560ti that justifies the extra cash, for example - only a 6 fps increase in BF3: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...tlefield-3-DirectX-11-B-Performance,2968.html

I've seen the 6870 on special at Wootware for R1600 which looks like an awesome price. I could probably get a 560ti second-hand for about R1800 - R2000. Is it worthwhile spending the extra cash or will the 6870 perform just fine? Which would you recommend?

Currently I have an E7500, but I plan on upgrading to a Core I3/I5 in the upcoming month or so.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

For your budget I would suggest the Radeon 6870 which has a great great price/performance ratio. Do you have an account with Esquire? Since they currently have stock of the Sapphire Radeon 6870 2GB, the extra VRAM will help quite a lot in the near future, considering Battlefield 3 needs 2GB of VRAM to operate at Ultra. If you want a performance boost add in another 6870 in the near future and crossfire them.
 
I have a 6870 (1gb), and I play bf3 at full specs and it runs perfectly.....however I have a core i7.

The i7 unfortunately means nothing, you'd get the same FPS if you had an i3. But I agree the 6870 should be good enough. You can get one for R1599 from wootware if you hurry.

Agreed.
I also have a 6870, works great. The 560Ti is an awesome card too, I'd say to focus on the price difference between the two but if you might consider going dual GPU one day you should be better off with the 560 since SLI is supposedly slightly superior.
 
I'd say stick with the HD6870 from Wootware.

The CPU can make a big difference in the framerate too. Like I have to overclock my i7 940 to its limit to maximize my framerate in BF3, otherwise my framerate is like 20-30% lower. It could also be that I need a faster CPU to play the game at 2560x1600 than what would've been needed to play at 1920x1080.
 
Even if you get a second hand GTX560Ti for R1800, the brand new HD6870 will offer better value for money (roughly 6% better value)
 
Cool, thanks for the replies. I ended up getting a Palit 2GB 560TI for R1800. I hope it serves me well :).
