Graphics card advice

Wow....

My 3 year old card is better then the 6570 I wanted to get. You see this is why I asked.

Not really dude... that GPUReview site only measures on raw specs, but across architectures and generations the numbers become meaningless. The only numbers that count there are pixel and texture fill rate and Gigaflops - which unless you know how to interpret them won't mean much.

True but those numbers are not that different... so for R1000 i'm not getting much of an upgrade, might as well spend R500 more

Definitely. You can also sell the 3870 on Gumtree for say r400 which might help your upgrade :)

I'm in a similar position. Found the same thing. ~26% difference between specs. If you look at the 3dmark scores (double the score) though there was one measurement (texel rate I think) that jumped 230%, which I gather makes all the difference if you start doing heavy AA.

You have to laugh....

I just googled the recommended specs for Sc2

PC Recommended Specifications:

Windows Vista®/Windows® 7
Dual Core 2.4Ghz Processor
2 GB RAM
512 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon® HD 3870 or better

*Note: Due to potential programming changes, the Minimum System Requirements for this game may change over time.

So its actually the recommended ATI card for Sc2.. LOL.

I think its my screen resolution that's the problem, everything else is way above spec, Quad core, 4gig RAM.

ye, but those are the recommended specs anyway. What they should have is a indication on what resolution they tested that spec.

From what I have proved, you can't run that spec on a 23'' on high.

Minimum is generally based on low settings and low resolution.

PC Minimum System Requirements*:

Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 (Updated with the latest Service Packs) with DirectX® 9.0c
2.6 GHz Pentium® IV or equivalent AMD Athlon® processor
128 MB PCIe NVIDIA® GeForce® 6600 GT or ATI Radeon® 9800 PRO video card or better
12 GB available HD space
1 GB RAM (1.5 GB required for Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 users)
DVD-ROM drive
Broadband Internet connection
1024X720 minimum display resolution

If you want an HD6850 for around R1500, you'll most likely have to get one second hand.

The cheapest ones that I know of are like just over R1700.

Thanks, R1500 is already stretching it a bit. I see I can get a GeForce GTX 550 Ti for under R1300, not much of a gamer so I guess it will do.

guys, i need some advice... im new on mybroadband so i dont really know how to create new topics lol.
Anyway i wanna buy a good graphics card it doesnt have to be such a beast, just something worthwhile and affordable,
my budget is between R700 - R900, ive got a ASUS P8H67-M LE motherboard, i can get a Geforce GT 440 128bit 1 Gig graphics card for R700 but ppl say its, in their terms, 'depressing'... thanks in advance!

a Friday evening is probably not the best time to ask such things, all the GFX geeks are having lan parties :D /jk :p
