Hi Guys,

So I built my PC. Now I need a decent graphics card, my budget is R1500 at most. The cheaper the better, errr.
I want something for gaming, it doesn't have to be max resolution with everything on high. But just something that will run games at 1280x720 or higher with decent graphics.

(Current specs: i5 2500K (running at 4.5GHz), x2 4GB DRR3, ASRock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3, CM GX 550w.)

Thanks.

Or you can get the HD7770 from Rebeltech for R1580. It's a little bit slower but uses far less power. I'm going to pick it up at the end of this month.

IMO the only reason to go for the 7770 when it is the same price as the 6850 is if you absolutely must have a lower power draw.. Otherwise 6850 all the way.

Looking at OP system he's not to worried about power draw :)

Thanks, was actually thinking about the HD6850.

What do you think of a second hand HD5850?

It should still have warranty get the guy down to R1300 then you'll buy it no problem :)
I sold my 5850 last year june-ish I think for R1400

Dude r1400 for a 5850 is too much. You can get it for r11-1300 max. Here's a 5870 for r1500: Link.

You can also consider a 460gtx 1gb model for around the same price, will be slightly slower than a 5850 though not by much - faster than 6850 though again not by much.

+1 for that 5870. Was looking it myself. :)

honestly i wouldnt go for the 5xxx range because it is already 2 generations old and you are going to start feeling that in a few months time. If you are going to buy i would rather get the 6850. Dont get me wrong the 5xxx range is very good but im just a bit biased when it comes to older technology.

You're just talking nonsense. 5850 is faster than 6850. 5870 is faster than 5850. THAT is all that matters. The only other thing is the heat and temps but frankly 6850 isn't that quiet or that cool anyway.

what about the Gainward gtx550ti-gs? It costs 1600 at Chaos Computers. I got one and it runs like a dream :-)

Ok so whose got a 5850 or 6850? I want a user's review.

I used to have the 5850. iirc I ran BF3 at 1920x1080 with all settings high, 0xAA. Gameplay was smooth, however I did not actually measure the frame rate.

Update: I got the HD5850. Running Homefront on 'Very High'. Nice...well I think.

Going to try BF3 tomorrow.
