Somewhere far far away.
So the problem is the guy next door from me wants a new graphics card and want me to give him advice on which card to choose.
He's got about R1000 to spend and wants to choose one of these 3 cards.

He wants to know which one I think is best for him to choose...
I would have loved to tell him the 1GB Gigabyte, cause gigabyte is best only problem is it's only got DDR2 memory (Yuck!!!)

I am thinking of telling him to just got for the 9400GT 512MB, because I prefer Nvidia.. but let's hear what you guys think.

Asus nVidia GeForce 9400GT - 512MB - PCI-E

Asus ATi Radeon HD4550 - 512MB - PCI-E

Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 9400GT - 1GB - PCI-E

Edited: O yeah he currently have a ATI x300 256MB so he really needs something better..

None of those, because, lets face it - Those are seriously overpriced and I don't believe in buying Gigabyte/Asus just because it is Gigabyte/Asus. You can easily get a proper 9500GT for that budget. Although I do not have a clue how these cards compare to each other and what ATI have in that performance bracket.

You might want to have a look here: Asus 3850, R779 http://www.zaps.co.za/?pid=6807

I've also found a few 3870's that retail just over the R1K that might be worth a look at over at Prophecy.
3850 http://www.prophecy.co.za/gecube-hd3850-512mb-pcie-graphics-card-p-23693.html
3870 http://www.prophecy.co.za/force3d-hd3870-512mb-p-29583.html (3 year warranty)

Edit: This time I am not sure what Nvidia offers in the above performance bracket.

i agree, Go with the 4670, it performs close to the 4850 and is even better in gaming then the 3850x2, just checked tomshardware. Posting from phone so will give link when i can

Cool will show him the other cards, he asked me about these 3 cards that he saw while browsing through Take2.. Luckily I don't have to buy overpriced hardware like these..

At work I pay Cost + VAT can't share my staff discount with him, cause my work complains if I buy stuff to often, buch of retards..

ouch, what a waste. 4670 has my vote. very low power usage (don't need PCI-E power) and great performance

*wow have not done this in a while... ^_^*

HD4670 all the way picked up a FORCE3D HD4670 512Mb for R1000 cash running GRiD, Oblivion, RA3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, UT3, TDU and anything els I toss at it. Would have loved to get aholf of the GAINWARD one with HDMI/VGA/S-video/DVI ports, bur was sold out.

System is a E2160 stock w/ 2GB DDR2-800, pretty much does all I want it to not a heavy gamer so much since anime is way more interesting. :)
