1. Can someone explain what "pixels per clock" means? and
2. How the "Memory Transfer rate", "pixels per clock" and "Core Clock" affect the performance of a graphics card?
3. What else do you look out for when judging a Graphics Card's performance?

Let me introduce you to my very special friend :D

This made me laugh :D However, come on guys, this forum is meant to be a place for technical questions like this to be answered! go for it...

I would gladly answer.... BUT... I am too genius to spread my knowledge :D Perhaps one day when you lesser beings reach my level of intelligence I might tell you some secrets of our manifesting universe

True... this forum would not exist if every member was told to use google.

I too would assist but my knowledge of this would need to come from google! :)

Me neither. What i cn tek u though is obvious.lookr out for benchmarks of card comparisons.and reviews frm reputable sites eg.anandtech, bitech etc.thats pretty much it for me:-D

We call it best bang for buck! :D

Say you have 2k for a GPU, look at what you can get for 2k and look at benchies from games the card that has the highest average score = winner!

Right now IMO best bang for buck is a HD4850 or HD4870!!

Let me give it a try, i could be very wrong but at least i am helping.

1) pixels per clock, how many pixels the chip can "draw" per clock cycle

2) How fast ur game/graphic data can be transfered from memory ---> gpu
how many pixels ur card can draw per cycle once the graphic data is taken from memory and lastly how fast can ur gpu finish the clock cycle (eg 550Mhz = 550000000000 jumps per sec "might've missed a 0 or two there).
If u still dont understand i can simplify it more :D

3) What the other guys said....look at benchies etc etc

A good example would be the 6800GS and 6800GT

The GT is clocked much lower, but has a higher pixel per clock rating than the GS which results in both of them having similar performance.

Sorry guys, but the google response from me reminded me of one of my first posts. It was only meant to tickle the ribs a little. :D

Think only thing that should really be taken into account is price u can get the gfx, and system compatability (eg if ur cpu would bottleneck, or if ur chipset/psu is imcompatible etc etc) and lastly look at reviews and benchies of the cards that are in ur budget.

U cannot just judge a card just by memory bandwidth or clock speed etc unless they are the same kind...etc 6800GT compared to 6800GS compared to 6800XT for instance
If they use a diff core then it would be hard to judge...like for instance the 1600pro and 7600GS...the pro has much higher specs but loses in many benchies...

So after all that blabbering, the main point is to look at benchies and reviews :P

That is a very good statement,i wonder why non has posted this in offtopic.
Most forums on the net also says use google, but using it will make a forum totally useless.Less members will enter and soon the place we love will be dead:D
