So I haven't been paying too much attention the last few years and my SO's HD 4890 bit the dust a while back and I need to get her something so she can play her games (Predominantly Sims 4).

Her old system spec:
Q8200
4GB ram
Asus P5QPL-AM

Now I know this is quite old tech but what can I consider getting her that would be at least a good as or better than the old HD4890....?

Thanks

For 2K, R7 260X or GTX 750 Ti.

The nice thing with graphics cards is that the prices are roughly equal to performance for the mid-range stuff...so you don't have to agonise too much over which to get (by this I mean the Nvidia and AMD boards perform much the same and hence their pricing is very similar). There'll be small differences coming from the manufacturer but the underlying board is the same.

i would look at these 2 and decide if there's anything between them that attracts you -

Rebel Tech, you don't have to list every feature of the item in the URL

:D Thanks.! I may just bump her up as mentioned in my above post. I'll have to start saving again at some point to properly upgrade both our PCs :/

Yeah I can do that. Do I have to worry about having any compatibility issues with her abovementioned spec...? Its a LGA 775 Mobo so I don't know if there should be any issues and probable bottlenecks...?

Motherboard will be fine and assuming the 4890 didn't die because of anything PSU-related, that should be fine also.

The card will work just fine, might be a slight bottleneck because the board is only PCIe Gen 2 but the processor is going to be a much larger bottleneck.

If you're planning on upgrading the rest later, get a decent card now that will go with your shiny new hardware later instead buying a cheap card now and one again when you upgrade the rest

Thanks. Yeah I always make sure that the PSU is overkill so no worries there.
