Hey,

Looking to upgrade my my gpu, (my ati 9800pro broke). I'm thinking of waiting and getting a 7800 GS AGP, currently have a nvidia 5500.

My System is

AMD Athlon 3500+
1 GIG DDR400 Dual Ram
SATA Drive 300gig etc.

If my ati 9800pro still worked how much improvement would I have had over the ati, if I bought a 7800 GS when it came out.

Anyone know of a guess price the 7800 GS  will retail at?

If I had to guess then I would say the 7800GS would be about 2.3x faster than the 9800pro. Could be wrong tho

You wont get a card higher than a 6800 in a AGP here in South Africa for a while. If you want prices Pm me and i'll Pm you back.

JA, i agree with Person. You are gonna wait long time for anything higher than 6800gs.

yeh but as soon as the 7800 GS hits the market , the 6800 GS price is going to come way down and probably going to be discontinued, as far as I know the 6800GS was kinda like a 2006 christmas present from nvidia and arent going to make them a mainstream card?

Some advice...

You can get pretty much any card you want in SA if you shop around but I can tell you you're gonna pay an arm and a leg for a 7800 gs,gt or gtx. Check out http://www.computersonly.co.za.

Lemme give you some advice mate, dont buy it in SA, go online and use your credit card... You'll save yourself 2 grand easy!
Remember that you dont pay international taxes when you buy from the Uk or US... Only import duties and postage.
(unless you have a friend who can post it to you as a small parcel wink wink lol, in that case you're looking at around R250-R300 for postage if he/she is sending it in the original 'heavy' box)

http://www.dabs.co.uk is very good, I've seen it, 5 days delivery! (And thats when you use the 'friend' route)

I'm planning to buy one in the next two months or so as well by the way and I'm deffinitely going the online route...
I'm gonna go for a US site cos their prices are at least 10% cheaper than the Uk retailers as well. Here's the link http://www.newegg.com

They dont list their prices tax ex but I'm sure you can contact them and get something sorted out!

So now you can buy a 7800 gtx 256mb for the price of a locally retailed 6800!

uum, no not really. The best AGP card there is atm is the 6800GS so there is nothing better that he could get.

What Brand

My "little" Nephew wishes to purchase a 7800GT, but we are undecided on what brand to chose. We had our mind set on Leadtek, but Rectron in CT are selling out on Leadtek. They reckon Corex in Jhbg has stock of Leadtek.
Perhaps someone here know what supplier in CT has Leadtek or could suggest a good brand. :)

Are there any new cards coming out soon ive still got a 6600gt but dont want to upgrade yet just want to know when new cards will be released

Well there are always new cards "in development". The next new batch of cards are probably going to come out in May/June with less powerful cards coming later.

I just ditched my 9800pro for an 6800Ultra as I have a Msi plantinum AGP motherboard and it was really worth it. On my pro my 3dmark2003 score was about 6000 and with the new card its at about 13000.
