Hi

Currently have an Nvidia Geforce 4 64mb card ...

Looking to play NFS or similar games ... if I am on a tight budget ... what is the graphics card I should consider .... any help here would be appreciated....

SHould I consider buying a second hand one?

Can you give me an idea of how much your recommended card costs.

Thanks

Not for gaming no...

The bare minimum you can go with is a Legend AGP 6600GT 128MB.
Those go for about R1000. Check prophecy.co.za or dotcomputers.co.za for availability.

But even the 6600GT is dated, you'll be running new games on medium settings. Then you also need to look at the rest of your PC Specs for other bottlenecks ....

EDIT: lol@scatlett

Sure mate, you can buy a card for around R600 that will run more than OK,just at lower detail than the high-end cards, put it this way,I've seen a 5200 run NFS Most wanted fine, just not using AA.

You can purchase a 6200 card for that price in Cape Town,PM me and I will divulge details of a location,or I can help you find one.

IN durbs u can get a Chaintech FX5500 256mb card for 499, I used that card for a while, it aint bad for a tite budget!!!! PM 4 more info

The FX range sucks... i had a geforce 4 ti 4600 and that killed every FX card upto 5700... but if u just a very casual gamer and just want to play and don't mind having only the basic of graphics then FX should be fine.... But the geforce 6 series would last alot longer and be much better value for money.

I know it is not quite in your price range but I recently bought a ATI x1600 pro and it seems to perform quite well on all the latest games. And you have the otion of later upgrading to a Crossfire configuration of you have one of the the Crossfire MB's. (Think it's price is in the region of R1300 though)

I used the 5200 and played most games. Yes it couldn't handle the high settings, but it is an upgrade from your current card. I played HL2, etc. with that. There will always be better cards out there no matter what you buy.

Don't let these guys bully you into spending all your money ;) "Cause that's what we do"

I would also suggest the 6200 for your budget.

6200 would do fine

but for an extra 500 your could a get 6600gt which is 5 times better

my advise next you go out shopping and your wife say sees a pair of shoes for 300 tell her she can only buy for shoes for R 150.00 see how fast your new 1000 6600gt will come

if you cant spend money on something make sure she cant either!!!!

Thanks for the tips ...

think i mite have to settle for the 6200 .... wish i had a bit more for the 6600gt though ...

cheers
