I've tested two sceens now and the DVI on my ati hd 4850 only works when a vga apater is connected to it. If a straight dvi cable is connected the screens don't pick up a signal...and yes i have tried new dvi cables. I tested it on an nVidia card as well but came to the same result. Any ideas cause I'm out

I reckon it could be a PCI-E frequency or voltage issue. Windows probably not picking up EDID. You could try changing the settings in your BIOS, but I'd read up on them first since I've never played with them.

Check on your monitor that you have the correct input selected. What monitor are you using? (if a samsung one, try pressing the 3rd button from the bottom on the side of the screen or the the third one from the right if the buttons are at the bottom of the screen)

dvi port may be busted - did you check for bent/broken pins?

Keeper was right. The DVI port killed both screens when you plug it in. The pc needs to be restarted. Its being sent back for warrenty and I'm getting a HD 5870 for the time being
