So I've realised that with my family history of heart disease, I need to start paying closer attention to my Omega 3 and 6 intake.
But I have no idea where to find grass fed beef and non-vegetarian chickens / eggs, the main (non-fish) sources of omega 3 afaik, in and around Cape Town.

I know most shops sell organic varieties of both, but most organic animals are grain fed, rather than their proper diets of grass (for cows) and grass / worms / insects etc (for chickens).
So this messes up the Omega 3 and 6 you get from the meat / eggs. They tend to be higher in 6 and lower in 3, exactly the opposite of what humans (and people like me especially) need.

So anybody have any advice for buying good meat / eggs in Cape Town?

Was thinking of that, but a man's gotta eat, at the end of the day, and everything's got high 6 and low 3. (Except fish, and you can't live on fish alone).
Know of any good O3 tablets / supplements in SA?

Most cattle in SA are grass fed. Very few are grain fed (at least in our farming communities).

We really do have enough grass to feed our cows :D So recon 9/10 your meat will be grass fed. I dont see our farmers paying for grain ontop of the grass grazing. The only thing a normal farmer adds are salt licks and lucerne.

So meat from Woolies etc. would probably be grass fed?

Yup.

TBH only places Ive seen grain fed beef is in the US, Philippines (they import their meat) and some counties in the EU. To me it has a different taste and I dont like it. While I am sure you can get it here, ive never seen it on the shelves and none of the many farmers I know use grain. I know we have over 1000 head of cattle on our farm and we dont use grain. It would be too expensive and the earth provides already :D

Find out who imports Argentinian beef. Did I mention those gringos have some of the best meat I've ever tasted including their pork ribs?

With fish oil I'd really try getting a quality product. Almost every decent brand out there that offers purification of their fish oils is priced similarly, and those Vital products are always priced so cheap that I wonder about their quality and they make no mention on their site about purification of their oils. With animal-based/derived products I'd rather just spend a bit extra and get a decent quality supp rather than the cheapest thing. But it might not really bother you that much :).

Local brand: http://therealthing.co.za/the-real-thing-mega-omega-supreme.html
International: http://www.solgar.com/SolgarProducts/Omega-3-Fish-Oil-Concentrate-Softgels.htm (available at all health stores)

You dont want too much omega 6 there is tons of it in margarine, and its not good in large quantities.
Omega 3 is great and easiest to get in supplements.
