Hello MyBBers :)

I got back from an awesome holiday in Cape Town (Blouberg) a few weeks ago and i have been meaning to write a post on it but work got super busy....anyways, the point of my post is about how awesome Cape Town is!!!! It's brilliant.

Normally, the destination of choice would have been Camps Bay/Clifton. Though the prices of accommodation there is ridiculous (esp for the last minute bookings. lack of planning.....its a curse ). Luckily I managed to come by, through pure chance, a website (which was still under construction at the time) of a suspiciously great looking flat in Blouberg at a rate of R1000 per night. Took a chance and best decision ever!!! The place was about 50m away from the beach (seriously, i woke up in the morning, took the elevator down and was pretty much at the beach). And the views from the balcony were awesome, table mountain on one side and Robben Island on the other). As someone who has stayed at the unit....go for it. The location of the flat and amenities in the block is great. Best part for me was sipping a mojito (I don't care what anyone says, that's not a chick drink) in the afternoon, in the lounge, while watching seals and whales on the beach. Only downside is that there was no undercover parking for the unit :(.....weird.

Go check out the site for the place and decide for yourself though 407atblouberg (dot) co (dot) za
The site also had some suggestions on what to do in Cape Town and Blouberg specifically. I tried a few of them...not bad at all.

Long story short (ok maybe its a bit too late for that) but Blouberg is really an awesome place and I can't believe how serene it is. Do yourself a favour and go to Blouberg....its brilliant. Will definitely be going back there (I have a bet with one of the waitresses at the restaurants that I could catch a fish in those turbulent west coast waters). On a related note, any posts on how to catch fish:D

If you ever go to Simon's town, there is an ice-cream place in the main road that sells the best stuff ever - their peanut butter ice-cream is pretty awesome!

and if in Fish hoek, go to The Beachcomber Bistro!

Erm, that building was never completed. They stopped work a year or so ago.

Also that isn't Blouberg.

Yeah so I got a warning for posting this....eish. Did not mean it as spam. And I think I must read terms and conditions much better before posting. So my bad.

oh and I like bargains :-) Hate having to pay more than I have to. That's why i switched to Cell C once my vodacom contract expired (hopefully saying this does not get me banned?). And I get daily groupon emails. I try not to pay full price at all. Hell i even wait for the Kulula emails on specials before booking my flights (and this is including a discovery discount) ;-P

So again, apologies. Didn't realize.

Doesn't explain why the map on their site points to a building that is unoccupied. Seems like a scam to me ...

DrJohnZoidberg, can you confirm the block next to Doodles is unoccupied?

Hi Guys

The title of this post caught my eye (I stayed in Blouberg for most of my life until a move to Joburg in November) so I thought I'd add my two-cents. The building in the pictures on the website definitely exists - it's called Infinity. It's diagonally across the road (behind) Doodles. The one next to Doodles was supposed to be a Radisson hotel if I'm not mistaken, but last I heard, the company that was building it applied for business rescue, which was turned down. I'm not too sure what's happening with it now but its been standing unfinished for a really long time. Any Blouberg residents know?

On the point of the map, I think they may have messed up when adding the map to the site. You can see the entrance to the parking if you rotate the camera angle to the other side of the street or you can see the building if you pan towards the sea and turn back up the road (in Google Street View). It's a blue and white building. I guess we'll have to wait and see if anyone can back up Bargain_hunter's recommendation for the place (but at least for now I can confirm that the building exists).

So if you not from Blouberg and don't know the area well then don't make comments like the one above. That's just plain ignorant....
Both buildings are in Blouberg....the incomplete one that the map points to and I'm guessing the one the site should be referencing (the blue one in the pics). When I'm in Blouberg, my gf and I go for runs along the beach and both buildings are visible.

And before proclaiming that it is a scam, maybe try finding out more about it? It could go a long way to lending credibility to your claim...Just a thought....

Hello,

I was doing some tracking on my site and noticed there was quite a few referrals from mybroadband. I tried to track it all and figured it must have come from this thread?

After reading a few of the comments here, I thought it would be prudent to respond to some of them.

First of, this is not a scam. The building and accommodation does exist and we do holiday rentals. We have had quite a few visitors over the festive period and bookings have been good thus far. The aim of the site is to not only provide accommodation but to provide visitors with ideas on the different things they can do while in Cape Town (with a focus on Blouberg of course).

I am more than happy to address any queries so please feel free to inbox me.

To Bargain Hunter, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope you will make use of our services again. Blouberg really is a fantastic place :-)

And a big thank you for pointing out the errors on the mapping in the site. I will fix that up soonest.

Regards,
407@Blouberg

PS: I hope this post does not contravene any of the rules of the forum. I merely wanted to respond to the comments on this thread.

That's West Beach, Blouberg is a bit further north west. I drove past it twice a day for eight years.

Based on the map and strange OP I'd say it was fair to warn others that it seems dodgy especially in the light of another mybb member being ripped off recently.

Anyway I moved closer to town a few months ago that's why I asked for confirmation.

Well, I can confirm that as per my municipal accounts (and title deed), it is blouberg. Also there's that nice "sign" (wall on the beach) on the side of the road that says Blouberg just opposite the flat ;)

And yes, I take your point on warning people about scams. This is quite an effective forum for that.
I would love for people that use the holiday rental to post their experiences online.
