I almost always have used my Ubuntu cd as a live cd to work off when I dont have a hard disk to install off, or really dont wanna touch the Windows system (I might catch some STD or something).

Today I downloaded Puppy Linux which is specifically designed to run as a live cd, and other than for my OS barking at me... its really nifty! It loads the whole OS into memory and is pretty darn fast.

Does the CD continue spinning? Cause thats the only thing that annoys me about the kubuntu CD.

No it doesnt... doesnt really get accessed a lot, and it saves your settings when you shut down. You can even put a DVD in and watch it (ie take the live cd out)

Cool. Where/how does it save the settings btw?

I'll check on the local mirrors for a copy.

If you're asking about Puppy, No. It's a little teeny tiny distro, even a couple of years ago I was able to load it into RAM on a 256Mb system. Nice trick - The OS running from RAM is damn fast, no need for CD or HDD. :)

DSL is even smaller.

I've downloaded PuppyLinux. Works fine on 128mb &366mhz.

A bit lacking on the eye candy front but very functional for 100mb.:p
