Many successful tech companies were started in Cape Town, which made millions for their founders.

AWS was most certainly started here. There are now other dev centres around the world, each generally focusing on a specific part of AWS (SWF, SNS, etc). EC2 (Which was the begining of AWS) is still developed in Cape Town

Not a garage, but EC2 and S3 where the first AWS services and they were indeed started in Cape Town (Constantia to be precise)

You're correct - AWS isn't a startup but the topic is "great tech". AWS is in itself treated internally quite separately to Amazon - the gist of the article for me is more about how we have pretty cool people in the tech industry in CT.

Small correction. It wasn't a division based here. It was a division started here, and is still here
