Grid Tie Inverter "Grid Limiter"

I have tried to search the Forum, but it returns all sorts of results.

Is there any way for make up your own Grid-Limiter for Grid Tied Inverters?
It appears that not all of the Manufacturers have a built in functionality like this, so an external unit is required.
