Grief-Stricken Doha Seeks Answers After Fire

Doha is frozen with grief after a fire that killed 19 people, including 13 children, at Villaggio Mall.

The fire started around 11am on Monday and by mid-afternoon it had claimed the lives of seven girls, six boys, four teachers and two firefighters responding to the blaze.

Seventeen other people were injured, with only four released from the hospital so far.

In the close-knit Qatari capital, it is a rare person who does not know someone affected by the tragedy.
Around water coolers, in school car parks, and in homes across Qatar, people shared their grief and tried to find some explanation for the blaze many feel could have been contained.

"We tried our best, but when we got there, the children were trapped inside," said interior minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
"We are very sorry for what happened. We tried as much as we could 
to save these people."

The confusion, anger and sadness spilled out onto Facebook and Twitter, where many have called for answers and even more have asked for prayers and support for the families who lost loved ones.

Well the answers appear to be according to a news report earlier today.

1) The kindergarten did not appear on any plans so rescuers were not aware it was there.

2) Shop owners were given the option of having either a) a fire alarm or b) canned music.

Guess which they chose.

...and they are hosting the world cup soccer ?
