Griffin Iphone FM transmitter

Hey guys,

I really wanna start using my iphone in my car and most alternatives range from R2k up to install a iphone connector. I see there is a itrip and its not that badly priceded, I wanted to know if any1 is using it and what their experience with it has been?

The sound quality is terrible! Bought one, took it back next day made up a lie that the dan thing is not working.

I've only got the older iPod iTrip which isn't compatible with the iPhone any more (since iOS v4) so I can only use it on my iPod but I love it. The trick is to find a clean frequency which may be more difficult for some. My car's antenna fell off a while back and that actually improved the iTrip's performance!

It works, but yeah, not perfect.

I had to keep the ipod directly under the radio to get the clearest signal, and as mentioned, find an empty frequency, like REALLY empty. Tip: dont drop it, the build quality is crap, and I broke two before I stopped buying them.

For some reason my car has a casette player and 6CD front loader but no aux input.

I saw one of these at either Look and Listen or Hifi Corp the other day. Retro, lol.

I bought a little FM transmitter for the iPhone/iPod Touch from Musica for R150 about a year ago. Not sure if they still carry it, but it works pretty well for playing my music and doesn't have a bad range. It is admittedly better here in PE than it was in Jhb where radio frequencies are much more congested.

If you are after good sound quality the FM transmitter is a no go. It is only as good as a radio channel but if that's all you want then they're an option

FWIW, I mounted an Altec Lansing portable speaker in one of my car's round (it's a Renault) ventilation holes in the dash. The ipod Touch now goes into a pouch in the cubbyhole, the wire from the speaker gets plugged in and I ride off listening to podcasts all the way to work. You might want to investigate portable docks and/or speakers that you could mount somewhere inconspicuous and that would work with your car's styling.
