Grocify for Android launched

It gets prices in "real time" - heaven knows from where as the items have been out of stock for weeks.
Welllllll... the price is right... the stock level "not my problem" xD

They aren't public but also not fully private behind a login.

If you download PnP ASAP App, without ligging in, the app will show you items and entice you to shop which then requires Login to Checkout.

Now according to you, the app must be empty until you login?

There are many instances of this where the data is technically public, because anyone can download their app or browse a website and you want to show the users data without needing authentication.

But, that does not allow someone to simulate your app or website and pull that data programmatically for their own benefit...
Yep... just because I park my car on the public pavement doesn't mean people can hop in and drive it.

It's probably a simple Gemini query with search grounding or something similar. Not very complicated. You can go onto Google and test it yourself. "Give me the price for Coca Cola for all nearby Checkers, Pick n Pay and Spar":

You set the Gemini query based on whatever filters your user selects, parse the results into your app, and presto. No need for all the omg where's he getting the data, does he have permission, is he using public apis etc.

It's not cheap though so he probably found a cheaper way to scrape, or he's making money off the app somehow...

He is using the various retailers APIs to get the data, sourced from said retailer's own delivery apps.. Was found and discussed earlier in this thread already..

So he is accessing the data for free, against the retailer's terms of use etc..

Sorry I didn't read the earlier posts, just the last page. If that's the case then it's dumb. There's easier and less dodgy ways to do it.

And if those businesses close the loopholes, then you're fcked, which is the problem with tying your app to other businesses without their permission anyway...

Checkers' API is scr3w3d-up then. I was looking for specific flavours of Slimsy, it's been ut of stock for weeks. Grocify had it on special at Checkers before I deleted the app.
