GrootBaas' Solar

Anyone familiar with Right Air? www.rightair.co.za

Pretty good deals they seem to have.
I don't have much hope when the company has fake Google reviews on their website.
Google hasn't heard of them. I'm not talking about their own site, I'm talking about them being registered on Google. Go to Google maps and search for rightair. Couldn't find them, yet they advertise a bunch of 5* Google reviews.
They have 2 reviews on Hellopeter from end 2022. Nah, give them a miss.

Yeah seems like much of a muchness between those two brands - I will definitely use a remote option to monitor and set the inverter so not too bothered about the interface on the inverter itself. Also now seeing talks about the Solis advanced power hybrid hitting our shelves - any thoughts on that?

W.r.t. my usage, I definitely need 8kw at a minimum. We are rather heavy on washing machines etc. Also have a 1.1kw pool pump. If I went 5kw the plan was to get another in due course. But realised now that I should just stick with the 8kw - I didn't realise the prices have come down so pleasantly surprised by that.

I received the quote. Not too bad but just looking at the prices the inverter and battery is a bit overpriced compared to what I see online (Deye 8kw R38k excl VAT; Volta 10.2kwh R49k excl VAT). Seems like they are adding a markup on those on top of charging for the labour (R13.5k excl VAT).

I'm in Cape Town Northern suburbs. My brother recently had a system installed and the people broke so much things at his place (roof tiles and ceiling) so looking for someone really reliable. I know this company who quoted me now did a great job at a friend's place so that was the reason for engaging him first.
I am hearing some good things about the new Solis S6 Pro 6kW Advanced Hybrid, and Powerforumstore will soon be giving one away. It has an excellent pedigree, and is priced to sell like hotcakes.

Unit 3? Maybe they haven't been in long?
It would be difficult to fudge those Google Reviews...

Was trying to get more info on that one. It doesn't seem to be supported by Solar Assistant yet though. Think I will stick with Deye/Sunsynk at this stage.

I see what you are saying, but that website of their just looks too legit for it to be scammy.

Phoned them just now - they say they've been in the aircon industry since 2006 and ventured into solar equipment for the past year. Spoke with an Adele.

They don't have a presence in Cape Town at the moment despite having a Cape Town number.

Will dig a little deeper still.

A good review here. It seems that there are some teething problems, but they get rectified very quickly. An added advantage over Sunsynk is that they provide loan units whilst being repaired:

What is the deal you're interested in?

They might be completely legit. You are however spending a lot of money and it's up to you to decide if you risk trusting a specific company. There are a lot of other installers that forum members have used and that can be vouched for. Just do your due diligence.

They advertised the Deye 8kw + Volta 10kwh battery at a much lower price than what I was quoted.

I now found another questionable website (Digigo) advertising that bundle at an even better price.

The reason I'm looking at that combo is because that the first quote I got indicated an 11 year warranty with that combo. However, I now found this thread which speculates that that 11 or 10 year warranty claim is BS. https://powerforum.co.za/topic/20602-deye-10-year-warranty-with-volta-myth-debunked/

Waiting on my logins for powerforum to be activated so that I can view the attachments.

But have to say, the fact that I am now questioning what I'm being quoted does not help.

For sure! Busy reading through some other members' threads now as well.

Had a second company here for a quote, so waiting on that one.

Also reached out to a third (based on the thread by @DawieZA) for a quote - Dawie is actually in my neighbourhood.

I phoned Africo this morning and they confirmed that they provide the 11 year warranty when a Deye is paired with a Volta battery.

Found a company in Strand (https://www.solarhubsa.co.za/) who also provide the Deye + Volta stage 3 at R10k cheaper than what I was quoted. I phoned them up and they also confirmed that there is an 11 year warranty on that combo. I will probably drive through to them to check out how legit they are before buying from them (if I decide to do so). I asked the guy who gave me the first quote if he would be willing to do the remainder of the quote but I source the inverter/battery myself. Will see what he comes back with.

That is a great price. I see even Solar&Inverter Warehouse had the 555w for R2300, showing now as 'coming soon'.

All prices still coming down nicely, seeing Deye 8kw for R34k.
Already 8kw/10kwh/4.4kwp systems being installed for R130k-R135k, and R140k-R145k for everything Sunsynk.

That price does seem very attractive.

What do I need to keep in mind when selecting solar panels?

How do I know that these Jinkos will be a good fit with say a Deye 8kw + Volta 10kw battery? At that price I will add a few extras for my roof facing West. The one installer mentioned that I have to keep the voltage in mind and advised against 600W panels. I don't get that though.

It does seem that suppliers are really dropping prices and the installers are not keeping up.

I can vouch for JCSolarPanels, and they have the 8kw Deye and Volta Stage 3 for cheaper than RightAir.
What I have noticed is that when one price moves, the rest slowly follow, so no rush but also R130k for your system fully installed is a great price and payback can easily be around 6yrs (if that's even what you're looking at, over and above the joys of solar).

Wow. I started a spreadsheet yesterday to compare prices, logging the inverter and battery prices for all the suppliers. JCSolarPanels' prices are now quite a bit cheaper than they were yesterday! Thanks for pointing that out - prices are coming down for sure.

I am honestly a bit mind blown right now. The installer that quoted me on the inverter and battery said he can't go lower on the price. The price difference between him and JCSolarPanels is now R16.7k and that includes the shipping.

That does seem to be the case, I had installers tell me they can't match the pricing and some suggested a higher install price if i source my own and it was still cheaper.

Those panels are compatible. Installer can guide the specifics, but primarily look at the VOC under STC and you add that for each panel, and it should ideally aim for 370V, do not go over 500V, so like 8-9 panels usually.

Edit: The supplier (JC) is also really helpful with advice on panels, etc.

After some back and forth with JCSolarPanels and Africo I have cleared up some of the confusion around the 11 year warranty with the Deye + Volta combo.

Feedback from JCSolarPanels:

From the importer:

This is not valid as yet. Deye has taken over the Volta production. This will only be valid from the Volta that will be produced in the Deye Factory.

Not offered by us yet until it is official.

Then there was also confusion as to if the warranty will apply if I purchase the Inverter through JCSolarPanels and the battery through Africo. Africo initially said that will be fine, but then came back to me (fortunately just before I made payment) to say that since they don't supply JCSolarPanels with the inverter either, that the warranty will not apply.
