Have been having groups.google.com complaining that my machine (based on my IP address) is sending spurious d.o.s-type requests to Google. So, I work for about 10 minutes then suddenly I get their message saying: Sorry, you cannot use groups.google.com because you've got a virus/spyware that's hammering our website with requests.

My question: is anyone else experiencing this. Are our telkom IP addresses by default "bad" ip addresses for Google?

Any ideas,

Kind regards

Abdullah

If it is from your PC then it sounds like you don't have any anti-malware software installed, have you got a firewall (if so why isn't it blocking this outgoing DOS traffic?), have you got anti-virus software installed? You also need anti-spware&adware software installed.

I suggest visiting the following sites & getting some:
Computer Associates eTrust EZ Armor (Anti-virus & Firewall)

Anti-Spyware&Addware software called Spybot Search & Destroy.

You can also use Adaware (shareware), or from the CA eTrust site they have a similar product (new).

I get the same even with no viruses on my machine (checked all files with todays definitions) and Kerio firewall running!!!!

I'm with Tiscali.

I'm with Tiscali too. Hmm, is this a tiscali problem?

I am positive I've got *no* virus or spyware as I did a clean reinstall of XP, loaded Kerio PF, loaded SpyWareBlaster then connected to the net. Used groups.google for 15 minutes, again same thing. Groups.google is sorry that I cannot use it because I apparently have spyware/virus. :(

This is getting irritating now.

If it was a Google problem affecting all visitors to groups.google.com, then they must have fixed it bcos I have no problem at all. Altho you might try explaining (in more detail) at what point and how groups.google.com tells you they have detected a DOS attack from your PC...[?] Does this happen as soon as your browser renders the page, or after you've clicked on some links[?]

What I suspect is more likely is your ISP has allocated you an IP address that groups.google.com has blocked due to problems they may have had in the past (as opposed to a DOS attack happening in realtime).

If you are with tiscali, call them, ask them if google has blocked some or all of the tiscali ip address range.

Still no problem here, take note of the IP address allocated to your PC by your ISP, then call your ISP. Also try looking up that IP address on some of the blacklist sites/databases.

This is the error
"We're sorry...
... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google. "
