Grpahics card or Mobo dead?

A mate of mine's PC gave up the ghost the other day and we are trying to establish what has gone...His screen went dead and after fiddling for a bit plugged his monitor into the onboard Gfx and it came back to life, however his Gfx card was still plugged into the AGP slot..Now surely you can't have a GFX card plugged in and run your onboard Gfx? I thought you had to remove the card in order for the onboard to work....Which makes me wonder, is the Gfx card dead or is the AGP on the mobo possibly the issue?

check the settings in your bios first,maybe something set defaults there

Well we have Dell's at work with ATI cards and you can use the onboard graphics with the graphics card still plugged in...

check which bios setting is active for your display

Check bios or just try the card in another pc or swap the card

Thanks for the replies chaps...Have given him a spare Gfx card I had lying around, he will test it out today.
