GSM Input / Output Modules and using SIM Card / RICA registration?

Has somebody experience with GSM I/O modules and the using rules in SA?
If you want to import such parts to SA or also buy such parts in SA:
Is it the same procedure like for a cellphone typ, normally the part has ICSA licence number, a IMAI serial part number, than you have to buy for each part a GSM SIM card including RICA registration?
Are there GSM I/O modules at the market in SA which you can use without problems, because of the RICA procedure start to the end of the year?

Is the SIM card after RICA linked to a fixed IMAI number?

I speak under correction but there is no real link between the rica registration and the actual device it will be used with. For a very similar purpose I recently bought 10 simcards and the Rica requirements is simply between yourself and the simcard, not the simcard and the device. So you would be able to use the simcard in any device without it being a problem. Rica is about knowing who is using the simcard, not what device is using the simcard.
 
What albert said. It's the SIM card that has to RICA'd, not paired to the device, so it's irrelevant what device it goes into i.e. a phone, a GSM modem, GSM controller or any other MMI device/application. It shouldn't have a problem using them in that company's products. BTW lots of this type of product available from local manufacturers, local is lekker.

You should be more concerned that the GSM modules used in the products are approved for use on local GSM networks, I see the use the Telit modules, and yes, they are approved for local use.
 
The only issue I see is making sure the hardware is ICASA certified. I'm not so sure what the law says about the hardware you are referring to.

(FYI: Just had at two serial GSM modems lying on my desk and neither have ICASA stickers on them. Know that one was sourced from South Africa and the other came from the States)

OK, the RICA registration of a SIM card is not linked to the hardware. That is positive.
GSM hardware: I think if you develop/integrate or want to sell the GSM hardware, it should be ICASA certified.

Biene Electronics is I think not ICASA certified, so that means I can use it privat, but not for selling it integrated in a machine in SA...
Biene Electronics has CE/EMV certificates and uses GSM Telit chips.
A problem is if you want to sell your solution in Africa you need ICASA certificates, if you want to export to the EU the solution you need the CE/EMV certificates.
Double work maybe for one solution, (software programming for different GSM hardware).
@Kayvee: If you know a local south african manufactor for GSM I/O modules, which parts are ICASA certified, this will be fine.
